Re: Hollywood Is Turning Densha Otoko Into A Musical

That's just weird. I wonder what the (presumably) real Densha and Hermes think of the news?

Re: Ultraman Gaia: The Great Battle in Hyperspace released!

Wasn't this released on DVD in the early 2000s?

Re: Lupin VS Pat 29 Released!

Wait, why were the localized names of Pokemon used in the commercials? The previous Pocket Monsters commercials that you guys have subbed have always used the original names.

Is the German word "geiz" pronounced the same as "ゲイツ"?

Gates would be ゲーツ not ゲイツ
If Bill Gates' Japanese Wikipedia article is anything to go by, his name is "ビル・ゲイツ" in katakana.

Re: Zi-O Promo released

So, is there any logical reason why Toei decided to translate "ゲイツ" as "Geiz" and not "Gates" (as in "time gates")?

Re: Lupin VS Pat 18 Released!

The Arsène Lupin flashback does give us a peek at a few Collection pieces we haven't seen yet. I'm pretty sure I've spotted a Jizaiken Kiba from Gingaman on the shelf below the Mega Sling-like piece.

Re: Lupin VS Pat 15 Released!

So, is this week's Lupin Collection piece based on Mega Yellow's Mega Sling? The only other Sentai slingshot that comes to mind is the Mido Puncher from Goranger, and it doesn't look anything like that.

Re: Lupin VS Pat 06 Released!

If I had to guess what this week's returned Lupin Collection piece was based on, it would be Pink Flash's Prism Boots from Choushinsei Flashman.

By the way. Patranger or Patoranger? Which one
Isn't "Pat" short for "patrol"? There's only one "o" in "patrol", and it's not next to the "t".

Similarly, there's Patlabor, which is a portmanteau of "patrol" and "labor".

However, there was also the Magic Knight Rayearth sub from years ago when it was on VHS and it always stuck in my craw that for -chan, they used "-ster" (so Hikaru would always go "Umi-ster! Fuu-ster!")

Oh lord, I remember that. >_< I hope that was dropped from later releases.

Re: Are you a pirate?

I'm curious, how much research do you do before you determine the licensed work has bad translations or uses dub terms? Do you have any examples of times when that's happened? Things like that usually show up in reviews or forum discussions. One example of a bad dubtitle was Candidate for Goddess's...

Re: Are you a pirate?

My view of fansubs is that they're there to tide you over until an official sub comes out (assuming it ever does). When that happens I get rid of the fansub and support the official release. However, there are very rare cases where I don't. Like if the translation is just awful. Or it uses too many ...
