Re: MegaRanger 51 released
I like to imagine the conversation that happened right before the MegaRangers flew in on their Cyber Sliders to the graduation. Kenta: Guys, it'll be soooo cool if we flew in on our Cyber Sliders! Miku: Ooh, and did a roll call! Kenta: Yeah! Yeah!! Chisato: Kenta, they think we're dead. Doesn't that...

Re: MegaRanger 50 released
I love the scene where Kubota and the rest of the INET crew pilot the mechas to save Yuusaku.
Actually, I pretty much love any scene with Kubota.

Re: MegaRanger 49 released
Weird note in this episode: when they use the shield during the MegaVoyager battle scene, they call out, "MegaShield" even though in the past that exact shield has been called "Voyager Shield"

Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
The final "ー" is supposed to mirror (or at least evoke) the final sound in other "-Ranger" names, right? My point being that if they were really only concerned with expressing the word "ninja", what would be the point of adding it? (Knowing next to nothing about Japanes...

Re: MegaRanger 43 released
I was going over this episode again after QC, and it occurred to me how weird it was that NejiRed, after having his free will (essentially) taken away by Hinelar, had the ability to take away NejiBlack's and NejiYellow's free will as well. There's some kind of weird fate vs. free will argument there...

Re: MegaRanger 44 released
"Damn it; Kyousuke's on vacation, and he's the one that usually does the titles."
"Can't you just do it yourself?"
"What?! It's plain white text with black outline and drop shadow. What am I, a wizard? I'll just do a bunch of bouncing red-outlined text."

Re: MegaRanger 44 released
What was up with the jarring change in the episode titles? I mean, I know it was a silly clip episode, but the lack of consistency irks my OCD tendencies.

Re: Why the u matters in Japanese
Wait, so I don't get it. Houji's nickname was Houji? "Okay, so we need some fun naming trend this year. What do you guys think? How 'bout a tea theme? Banban -> Ban Koume -> Umeko Senichi -> Sen Umm... Marika -> Jasmine Sure, why the hell not? Houji -> Houji Eh, I'm tired. That's good enough&qu...

Re: Why the u matters in Japanese
When has something being too obvious stopped them before? XD
When I was laying in bed last night, I remembered that DekaBlue's name is Houji, but they nicknamed him Hoji to go with the tea theme, right? Isn't that exactly the kind of wordplay we're talking about?

Re: Why the u matters in Japanese
I mean, it just seems interesting to me that the only difference between the way the two are spelled (using kana) is literally only one extra character and yet it's not (as far as we can see) utilized for wordplay.
I mean the Ichigou Arms thing is practically asking for it, no?

Re: Why the u matters in Japanese
Okay, so then is an ichigou/ichigo pun something that happens often enough?
Like when the Ichigou arms in Gaim appeared, did people make Ichigo jokes? Or was it itself an Ichigo joke?

Re: Why the u matters in Japanese
Here's something I've wondered: you say that the shorter vowel sound (e.g. "o" without a U) is not homonymic with the longer one (e.g. "ou" with a U). That makes sense. In Japanese, the longer sound is represented with just an added character rather than a completely different ka...

Re: MegaRanger 42 released
My memory's a little hazy on this (which is a bad sign if you think about it), but aren't there instances in past episodes of the other NejiRangers asking NejiBlack what they should be doing? I got the impression that they were mirroring the MegaBlack/MegaRed roles; i.e. Black as the sort of strateg...

Re: Ready Player One: A novel about video games and 80s cult
Good point about adventures and wish fulfillment. I should probably refine my point; if I have a criticism of the book it might be that Wade's victories are almost too triumphant and numerous. It's like having an overload of "fuck, yeah!" moments. Again, though, it's sometimes nice to have...

Re: Ready Player One: A novel about video games and 80s cult
I read the book a while back and enjoyed it very much as well (even gave a copy to a friend as a gift). Take, you're right about the romance being a little heavy on the wish fulfillment side; one of the thoughts I had about the book after reading it was whether Art3mis (the primary female character,...
