Re: Any JETs on TV-Nihon?

I really appreciate your long and detailed response! I've read that the interviewers are instructed to be very stern and humorless, and to intentionally make you feel as though your answers are not quite good enough. It's sort of an initiation, I've heard. So maybe that's what the deal was with the ...

Re: Any JETs on TV-Nihon?

Actually, I suppose that could still be helpful. What was your interview like? What were you asked? Do you know what it was that you did wrong? Perhaps I can learn from your failure, no offense. Also, it might be interesting to know what you wrote in your statement of purpose in order to see how muc...

Any JETs on TV-Nihon?

I'm interviewing this month, so I'm looking for other JETs to potentially give me some advice.

Mainly Yokohama.
I wikied that place too, and it also looks nice. Very historically significant too, but I'm not sure if that's really a factor here.

What is it that's so nice, in your opinion, about Kanagawa?

Re: Urban, Suburban, Rural - Where should I request placement?

Eek! Bugs! I'll make sure to stock up on bug spray when I get a place over there. I hope that doesn't become an issue. I am looking forward to buying one of those big ol' beetles. I heard you can get them at hardware stores. Would you happen to know anything about that? I wikied Tsukuba, and it look...

Re: Urban, Suburban, Rural - Where should I request placement?

I'd suggest suburban. I'm currently placed in a suburban area, so it's not particularly crowded, but it is a bit of a pain to get around by bike everywhere. However, my rent is super cheap, and if I want to go to Tokyo, it's only a hop on the train. Basically, as long as you live close to a train l...

Urban, Suburban, Rural - Where should I request placement?

I'm in the process of filling out my JET application. (That's the Japanese English Teaching Program.) I have to choose a part of Japan to be placed in. Where do you think the best places to live in Japan are? I've only ever been to Tokyo and some of the surrounding area. Nikko was particularly nice....

Re: Mighty Morphing Powers Rangers are BACK IN 2010!

I am really really excited about this. I can't wait! The new logo looks pretty slick. I wonder if they are going to redo the whole intro? A remixed themesong, perhaps? With different clips? What would be really sweet, is if they recut the show using more/different Sentai footage in order to change t...

Right, of course. I'm interested in anyone who is not purely Japanese.

This list is coming along nicely. Thanks!

Non-Japanese in Tokusatsu

After seeing Richard Brown in Shinkenger 14, and reading about a few other non-Japanese characters in tokusatsu, I thought I'd attempt to get a thread started in which we compile information on non-Japanese toku characters. Tokusatsu seems to be a pretty ethnically pure genre, but occasionally a whi...

Re: Shinkenger 14 Released

I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere before, but I'd just like to point out that the actor who played Richard Brown has our TV-Nihon subs for episode 14 on his Facebook page!

Re: Ultraman USA

^ You shouldn't be judging something before it comes out. You can have low expectations about them, but saying they're just made for laughs is like shooting an arrow without a target in my opinion. You make a good point. I'm not exactly judging it though. I'm just saying that I don't expect anythin...

Re: Ultraman USA

Are you a fan of American adaptations though? I can't see an Americanized Ultraman being any good, except maybe for laughs.

Re: No more power rangers toys?

All the places that carry mainstream toys in my town have tons of Power Rangers RPM junk. Too much, actually.

Ultraman USA

Have you guys heard about this? Ultraman might be coming to the US again. As usual, I'd prefer that they just release the series subtitled, but I doubt that would happen.
