Re: manga translation
A manga translation of what exactly? And while I don't know much about video encoding that does seem like a little bit of a jump.

Re: manga translation
That varies due to the magazines' release as some are weekly, others are monthly. Toss in the logistics of:
* Someone providing raws
* Someone translating
* Someone with l33t Photoshop/Paint Shop skillz on cleaning up the scans and putting in the lines
* How are we going to format them (one chapter per .rar or .zip)
* Form of distribution (Megaupload, Rapidshare)
Raw scans can either be from the magazine itself or from a tankoubon (collected volume). Financially, it's a bit easier to go for tankobon since you're getting several chapters at the price of one chapter from a magazine (on average). The downside is that you have to take apart either media in order to get clean scans (unless there's free access to a fancy-schmancy hand scanner). I had to do that for a Galaxy Force manga - thank god I was able to order another copy.

Re: manga translation
It does seem like a bit of a jump . . . let's not bite off more than we can chew. There's plenty of manga scanlation groups you could pitch whatever you want to read to. I'd rather that TV-Nihon not focus energy on a (frankly, superfluous) manga translation when the main focus is videos in the first place. Better a fantastic (and pretty damn quick too) video release than an okay video with decent manga.
Now, if it were the Ryuki manga, then maybe I'd be willing to change my mind. ^__^

Re: manga translation
Or you can simply go to a group that you feel is fairly active, suggest a title that you like and see if they bite. For Kurohime though, I think the group(s) that are doing it now are fine since it comes out on a fairly good basis. I never knew how much work it took until I became an editor. I'm currently starting work on a chapter of Kamen Rider Spirits, because that project was lagging and I wanted to help the group that was doing it out. You also have to keep in mind that if a group is actively working on a project you should ask their permission first before 'taking it off their hands'.
