I liked the fact that they did a suitless rider kick.

Nah, not all. In the middle of the episode he told a girl "you'll be fine".

But maybe many of his predictions are pessimistic precisely because he really can predict, as opposed to charlatans who just tell people what they want to hear.

I had thought that as well. Damn. Oh well, better that they use a nicer suit design already made than the crappy ones they had in the pilot. But that's for another thread.

I so wanna use someone else as a springboard now! That definitely works, yeah. Also, what exactly did the Copy Vent do if there was still only one dragon to strike with? Would've made more sense if Ryuki did it first, it misses, and then Raia does it again to hit the monster.
