Looks like Disney will soon rule the world. But for now, this is a major purchase since they acquired Marvel.

Best thing to come out of this is the annoucement of Episode 7.

We were talking about this in the IRC channel. General feeling is if they remade Episode 4 with Muppets everyone would be happy.

Hey Lunagel.

Not sure about Episode IV, but if they remade the prequels with Muppets, I'm all in!

I think I'm okay with there being just three movies in the Star Wars canon.

The problem is how this could mess up with the extended universe. Not that anyone apart from diehard fans no what that is anyway.

It's looking like all new characters so probably no Expanded Universe stuff.

Can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing cause most of my time in elementary I was reading the EU stuff so I'd love to see that on the screen but I don't want them to fuck it up.

It's confirmed Lucas is not directing or producing yay!

Personally, if they are going about a hundred years or so into the future, they should make the next three movies based of of star wars legacy. I would love to see Cade Skywalker and Blue on the big screen.

I, for one, am extremely excited about this. You could tell that by the end of the prequel trilogy that Lucas was just tapped out. I look forward to getting new writers, producers, and directors to breathe new life into the franchise. George Lucas is positioned as a creative consultant for the new films so it is basically, still his idea. The new trilogy is an original story which means no adaptations of any Expanded Universe stories. The details of Luke Skywalker's death have never been elaborated upon and that's what I've always thought Episodes VII-IX were supposed to be about. I definitely think they'll be picking up where Fate of the Jedi left off.

Of course, I guess we'll just have to wait and see! :)

We were actually talking about this a few days before the announcement. A big part of why the original fans of the series liked the trilogy was because the characters were interesting and cool. Because it hadn't been explained away to nothing, things felt more mystical because the Force was this unknown thing.

The extended stuff and prequels sort of ruin that. For the most part, the aliens and stuff were just random nonsense. In Star Trek terms, they're just humans with stuff on their faces, but with less defining characteristics. I mean, we all know Klingons are aggressive and warlike, but what's a Twi'lek known for? Or worse, we get the Asian stereotype aliens from the prequels.

The Star Wars trilogy is a classic tale. You've got your evil empire and the heroic rebels fighting against them. They pretty much finished the story with Return of the Jedi. One of the reasons I hated reading the extended universe books was that the villains were always some dumb remnant of the Empire or clones of Palpatine. It was pretty stupid.

I'm sure what comes out will be passable since George Lucas won't be at the helm, but nothing's going to be what the original trilogy was. I'm just kind of tired of the creativity bankruptcy that is plaguing movies nowadays. Why's everything have to be a sequel or a remake?
