Shinkansen daibakuha (1975)

Post by TorchWood »

Has anyone seen the movie Shinkansen daibakuha? The English title was The Bullet Train.

Let me know if the plot sounds a bit familiar... a bullet train with 1,500 passengers departs the station, but a criminal bomber has placed a bomb on board and demands a ransom. It gets set when the train goes above 80 km/h (50 mph), and should the train drop below that speed.... BOOM! And, it must be real..... they demonstrated it on a freight locomotive.

I remember seeing this film in the 1980s on television in edited/dubbed form. The version I get is the restored version that is strictly subtitled. Although it isn't a fantastic film, it is entertaining although it is filled with tropes...

* First scene of the freight train that is about to be blown up.... "The 7:30 Ressha Sentai ToQGer is departing now...."
* First press briefing.... "Another briefing that could have been handled by an email."
* Zoom in on the criminal leader before a backstory.... "We have flashback sign"

Oh, and it is licensed in the United States....
Something happening on a show turns into a board comment.
