His haters are having a field day with this one.
I'm disappointed with those tweets he posted, but I expected it from Gunn because he was intriguing, even before becoming a director for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie series. That being said, I'm just gonna move on from this. I don't need to be bummed out over this.
I'll go Eric Andre on another abandoned lot.

The haters all around this world can drink Childish Gambino's daycare while I, the insignificant nobody they branded as, continue to survive & thrive.

It's a shame for two reasons. The first was that he was the guy who turned the Guardians from D-list supporting heroes to mainstream ones. I'm not sure with a replacement director if a 3rd guardians movie will capture the feel of the first two. The thing that frustrates me is I'm fairly sure the remarks pre-date him being picked up by Disney to do the first film, which means Disney is now having to sack him because they didn't bother to vet him properly themselves.
The second is that its a targeted attack. I haven't read into the details of the story in great depth, but from what I can gather it was some conservative group that dug these deleted tweets up using some archiver/wayback machine because of his anti-Trump stance?
I'm not saying that some of what he said is okay, especially for someone that was in his 40s at the time you'd think he'd know better. But it's a combination of things. Twitter really wasn't that popular back then and also there is really been a big politically correct push in the past 5 or so years that's lead to a zero tolerance to anything that is deemed edgy or offensive, regardless of intent. Should we be held responsible for things we've said years later if the social narrative has evolved? Should you continue to demonise someone for something that they've done/said in the past if they're trying to move on and changed their ways?

I also think it's too bad and that the punishment didn't really seem to fit the crime. It just came off as a guy trying to shock people on the Internet, more than hateful speech or anything like that.

It was kind of his shtick as well. He did a series in 2008 called James Gunns PG porn that was full of sexual humour. Its not like it was unknown.
I just get the feeling after the Weinstein thing there is zero tolerance thing for anything that could be interpreted to be remotely sexual in nature to change the perception in Hollywood.
