New Voltron on Netflix

Post by takenoko »

Did anyone else watch it? It seems pretty cool. I love the anime style humor (seems mostly associated with Hunk).

I think it's weird that they made the black ranger the red ranger though.

And while it's cool that they spent the majority of the episode getting their robo, I have to complain about the episodes being an hour long. They should cut them into half hour slices and have a cliffhanger every other week.

I'm surprised they didn't have a monster that was made grown to fight the robo with. And do any other Sentai take place not on Earth?

Since the arms are removable, I'm guessing new mecha will just replace the arm mecha.

Not a fan of the robo design, but what can you do.

With five members, you'd think that they could at least add a girl or two in. Maybe the sixth ranger will be a girl, but I doubt it.

And that's my review of Voltron episode 1.

I'm really liking it. It's got good voice work, nice animation, funny moments. And it's about Voltron what's not to like? Only the 1st episode is in hour the rest are 20mins.

We must contain this terrible knowledge and leave the darkness in the past where it should be buried.

[06:48] <takenoko> what? that's how season 1 ends?
[06:48] <takenoko> only 11 episodes
[06:48] <takenoko> noooo

Overall, I'm very impressed. They got all the essentials right (except mecha design) and did everything almost perfectly in terms of story telling, characterization, pacing, and twists and surprises. And man, what a bunch of surprises (except the last one, which seemed to be revealed with very little fanfare). I very much like what they did with all the characters. Each of the pilots really feel like their own person. Not too bad, considering I thought they'd be forming Voltron to fight the monster of the week. The best surprises are the one you least expect.

I wonder why only 11 episodes for the first season instead of 13? Can't wait for season 2 now.

Netflix episodes aren't locked in and I don't think they'd need to conform to Japanese cour format.

I liked it. Pretty neat, except the robot design was kind of average as has been stated previously.

I just like 13 since that's a nice 1/4 of a year. I also thought the music was pretty mediocre, but nitpicks aside, it was pretty good.

Finished watching it last night, totally love all those twists throughout series. I really liked the series more than I thought I would especially that I have really never seen the original series before. I liked the show's art style and humor/quirkiness to it like I did with Avatar:The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra. I guess they used same animator team huh?

One biggest thing I liked is fact that they don't get together to form giant robot at end of every ep like one would think from mecha type of shows like sentai ya know. So each ep felt like a refreshing change of pace/topic.

I wanna watch more but now I got to wait... Hopefully they will make a second season. I like robot design overall, only thing I don't really like is his lips, it just kinda make him look pouty lol. I wonder what toy will look like.

I actually like how they're doing the show with 13 episodes every six months. Apparently they are on a multi year contract so we should have enough Voltron to wash all memories of horrible 90s cgi.

no word yet on a release date for "Season 2". where'd you get "every 6 months" from? cuz it should be out by now, if they were on that kind of schedule....

I've been seeing various sources say that it'll be back as early as this fall.

I read it will be in December. It's been a month or two ago that I saw that though.
