The author of the original book was there too. He’s awesome!

Peter S. Beagle answered some questions before the movie. In this picture we see them doing the raffle for some signed goods. There’s also a lady who cosplayed as Amalthea. Apparently she made the dress herself and sells stuff like that. Cool!

One darling little kid asked him if he watched My Little Pony. Peter couldn’t hear the question, so he asked that it be repeated. The kid misinterpreted this as a “No” so he responded “Well, you should.” It was priceless. Eventually Peter said that he hasn’t seen any, but the guy he was with seemed to like it.

In fact, there were quite a few bronies at the event. One lady had Twilight Sparkle hair and was holding a Pinkie Pie plush. Another guy had a DJ Pony t-shirt. And I think one lady dressed as Rarity. It was fun.

I wore my Optimus Prime t-shirt, because I didn’t want to seem like I was showing loyalty to the wrong unicorn.

Peter S Beagle signing Last Unicorn merchandise
The man was so friendly and generous. He signed both the discs in my DVD/Blu-ray set as well as the cover.
And from reading his book, you can tell he’s a thoughtful, sagacious guy in general. He’s sort of everything I imagined him to be.

Peter reading an excerpt from his new short story about Schmendrick
Apparently we were the first to hear it. It was as good as you’d expect it. Sort of an origins of Schmendrick story.

Peter signed it on the inside! So awesome!

If you haven’t read the book, it’s definitely worth reading. It’s just different enough to make it worth your time. Plus Peter is just such a great writer. The dialogue is extremely clever.

Apparently he was just 27-28 when he wrote it? It blows your mind, really. He told some great anecdotes and said some really thought-provoking things during his Q&A.

Cool. I remember watching movie few years ago, but it wasn't anything wow. But I assumed it was because I watched it as adult when I should had as kid. Never had read the book either.

Regardless, I gave the blu ray and DVD of it to my older sister for her birthday recently and she loved it. It was her childhood movie so I guess there's something u will always love no matter what age u are.

Wish I can get it autographed for her lol.

It touches on a lot of themes and stuff that says something about the human condition. Peter is such a good writer though that all of it is subtlely woven into the dialogue. A lot of the stuff that is said is actually either quite funny or thought-provoking.

The book expands on all these things.

Also, there was a girl who asked "Why does the cat wear an eye patch."

Peter said he didn't do that, but his ?manager said that happened because they were trying out different voices for the cat, and couldn't quite figure out how to do it. So the voice actor did it with a pirate voice, and that's how they came up with the pirate theme for the cat. The voice led to the animation (instead of the other way around).

Ive a signed copy of a version of the DVD he approved. I gave the book to
a co-worker years ago. This is a really special, fun story. Apparently a version
of the movie had previously been for sale in which he was not happy about.
One of my favorite Movie and Soundtracks!

I wonder what the difference was. I knew that there was some licensing issue or something that they had to deal with for a a few years.

I finished the graphic novel yesterday, and wrote a review of it for my blog:

But the gist of it was that I basically didn't like it as much as the movie or the book.
