I won't necessarily say "awful", but definitely LONG-winded, and the same applies to Naruto and Detective Conan.

Re: Just an anime update!

Post by [kuronogantzryu] »

So... I've managed to catch up on some anime this summer. I was suprised with my progress!

In response to some replies, I've already watched Lupin the 3rd and the Castle of Cagliostro along with the first 4 EPs of FF: Unlimited beforehand. Lupin was definitely an eye opener for me. While I detest old school anime, the story was actually engaging enough for me to throw that deterrence aside and enjoy Lupin. (Mini-fanboy!)

I've started on the first season of Case Closed! as it's called in America. When I first saw this series' trailer a few years back, I thought it was corny and clichéd but it totally blew me away. A bit old school but I really couldn't stop watching because of its mystery hook. I also started on Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. Meh. A bit different from the Shonen Jump anime I'm used to watching but nothing too impressive.

I also managed to catch up on some DBZ, Naruto and Bleach, all Uncut.

Only anime I didn't like was Kekkaishi. It's okay... But I'll pass.

Thanks for the plentiful replies!

lonegamer7 wrote:Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (the first FMA anime is a Your Mileage May Vary, but it does cover the first parts of the manga fairly well)
Read Or Die OVA (also known as R.O.D.)
Read Or Die TV series
Rurouni Kenshin
Gurren Lagann
Macross Plus
Macross Frontier
Gundam Wing (and Endless Waltz, its followup)
Gundam: 08th MS Team
Cowboy Bebop
Slayers (and everything else that's been released)
Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
Lupin 3rd and the Castle of Cagliostro
Escaflowne
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (plus GitS: SAC 2nd Gig and its movie Solid State Society)
Busou Renkin
Vandread
Ah! My Goddess (the newer version)
I'll second all of these, especially Slayers, GitS:SAC, and Macross Plus and Frontier.

I'm also going to add Fate/Stay Night (and once you've finished that go on to the currently airing Fate/Zero)
Moribito: Guardian of the Sacred Spirit
Angel Beats
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi (the 1st season and the movie are best but you need to see Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody in the second season to understand the movie)
Azumanga Daioh
Summer Wars (movie made of awesome)
Redline (movie made of testosterone and awesome)
Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne (lots of sex and violence but a good story)
El-Hazard: The Magnificent World (first OAV series is the best)
Bubblegum Crisis (original 80s verion best viewed first)
Code Geass
Star Driver
Raildex (Both seasons of To Aru Majutsu no Index and its spin off To Aru Kagaku no Railgun)
Tiger and Bunny (sleeper hit Super Hero anime from Bandai)
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Mawaru Penguindrum
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Black Lagoon
Mahou Shojou Lyrical Nanoha (and A's and Strikers)
My-HiME and My-Otome
Kamichu

Really this would be a bit easier if you could narrow down the genre.

I haven't read through this list, so I'm sorry if this has been said.

Gun X Sword cannot be missed. It is short with 26 episodes, but it probably one of the best anime series I have seen in a while. Was released in 2005 as well, so it isn't that old.

I noticed Star Driver above as well. SD is rubbish.

26 isn't short. Its about normal. It only looks short when compared to shows like Bleach, Naruto and One Piece.

I believe that the word you're looking for is in fact fabulous! (No one I've ever met denies that the series designs get crazy Camp, but that's part of the charm.)

Star Driver is amazing. I can totally understand not liking it, but the idea of saying it's objectively bad is crazy to me. It does what it attempts to do very well - being utterly ridiculous, fabulous and campy. Maybe you're probably approaching it from the mecha fan standpoint and were disappointed with the predictable combat, I guess (based on your love of Gun x Sword) but whilst Star Driver isn't a great mecha show, I'll admit, I think it's a pretty damn good show.

Also, Monochrome is love.

You're absolutely correct Magenta. Also, I think part of the problem stems from being on /m/ way too much as well.

And I was more or less comparing the length to a full year run like Gundam. I watch far to much mecha anime for my own good.

Yeah, need to watch other stuff. Gundam is the exception, not the norm, when it comes to number of episodes.
