Whoa, that's certainly an odd choice of show to license, if it is indeed licensed. I have to say though... it would be weird/cool to walk into Best Buy and pick up dvds full of Arino's antics. o_O;

From the sounds of it, Fuji TV has subbed the DVDs themselves, but haven't found a distributor in the US yet. It's a surprise to me, certainly. I kind of thought that this show would never be subbed. But considering how popular it is in Japan, I guess I shouldn't be surprised?

I guess that would explain the Engrish ad.

I can definitely see why you'd be surprised, especially since Fuji TV subbed the DVDs. From what I've read, Japan sees their entertainment as being made for Japanese speaking people, in Japan and abroad, so that's why they never sub things in other languages.

Ah here's where I read it: http://www.fujitv.co.jp/en/faq/index.html#06

So yeah, I'm feeling you on the surprise thing.

Hey, as long as the subs are *good* I suppose this is a good thing... I'd hate to have engrish official subtitles. x_x

Kind of bummed, but pleased since I can own those cool dvds.
I was hoping that this company called Irmnet would broadcast it on my local PBS affiliate, since they do show a lot of Japanese content. Looks like it'll be NHK Close Up for a little while longer.
And at that Albie cried a single tear which turned into a jelly bean all the colors of the rainbow! And
suddenly...Albie wasn't racist anymore!!!

Hope this doesn't mean you'll stop as the DVD's only have a fraction of the content :(

Looks like episode 65 talks about their attempts to sell Retro Game Master internationally. From the looks of it, they only got interest cards from France and Canada. It's not really known if anything more came from that

I think it's cute, if not a little worrysome, that they're trying to spread internationally just as we start fansubbing the show (which would get them some international interest). It looks like there are about 1500 to 2000 people who download our GCX subs. I wonder if that's enough interest to build a profitable DVD selling deal?

I've seen that poster with the IFC/NYAFF screenings.

I haven't been able to see Episode 65 yet. Did they ever touch on the NYAFF screenings? There was a rep from StyleJam at the first day's screening with a camcorder...

65 didn't mention anything about that NYAFF screening. Everything in it took place in May, with the exception of mentioning that Arino was hospitalized for like a day recently

Arino wound up staying in the hospital for the next month due to a lung abscess. A brief mid-season hiatus is expected.

No, I mean, he wound up being in the hospital for a month, but is now out and doing okay.
