My reaction was similar, but the thing you have to remember is that in Japan it's still pretty much the norm for women to give up work when they get married. When he says "I plan to devote myself more to my work" the subtext isn't "I've got this gorgeous wife, but for some reason I'm planning on spending all my time at work" but "I'm the breadwinner now, so I need to work hard in order to provide for my (future) family".

She's just saying she's going to work hard at her job. It's a pretty common throwaway thing for celebrities to say
