...and we're back.

This episode: Destroy Them! The Devil Corals of Death. Leave it to MegaRanger to make coral threatening. Could this be a statement against environmentalism?

Quote of the Episode
"We've got to spend summer at the beach. To spend some time away from our parents!"
Yes, Miku, but we typically don't do that so we can spend some more time with our teachers.

This episode has a nice scary vibe to it with the townspeople disappeared. Even the image of the humans turned coral was creepy. I'm surprised that MegaSilver didn't stick around at the end of the episode to enjoy the beach.

This episode is a classic Sentai summer episode, which takes place at the beach or in a forest (in this case at the beach).

Good point about the scary vibe. It's not really convincing, but all the elements of a scary story, e.g. disappearence whilst in the sea, are there, so you have to at least take it seriously.

Nothing important happens as far as the plot is concerned, so perhaps it's preparing the viewers of what's to come next.

I had to look it up, but the coral thing actually carried over to In Space.

I didn't remember that, but go figure.

Spoiler
So this was carried over from Megaranger too... Ashley's grandma bugging her to get married when she's still only in high school seemed so dumb that I just assumed it was Saban's idea. Hopefully they'll explain it better, like maybe the old lady is senile or something and just doesn't know any better.

So INET has the ability to make transforming wrist bracelets & giant mecha but they can't keep track of 5 teenagers when they go on summer break kinda failing there Kubota. Though I suppose if they knew ahead of time of the monster being their then we couldn't have are creepy atmosphere for this episode.

Also props to wardrobe for putting Kenta in a hot pink shirt.

Yay, more Megaranger. And it's in stereo.

Well, it's encoded in stereo, but it shouldn't be since the source is mono?

Well you have the DVDs so you know more than me, but listening to the OP and the ED it seems to me that they're definitely stereo. Now everything else on the other hand (the main dialog, interstitial music, etc) is clearly mono.

Now that's interesting. I wonder if they used the CD recording for the openings or something. Doesn't seem like the kind of effort Toei puts into these DVDs. I'm glad that guy made me encode it in stereo then.

Could be. Though for a show with this much professional music it would be weird to broadcast it purely in mono in 1997, so I think it's more likely that it's always been like this. Actually this is exactly what you'd expect: record the OP, ED, and other major songs in stereo since those will get released to CD, record the rest of the show in mono, and then mix the show in stereo so that you can use the aforementioned stereo songs.

That said, I've long since given up trying to figure out Toei, especially when it comes to the quality of their DVD releases. :P

Agreed. Thanks for bringing stereo back.:)
