That's kinda what had me confused: why would they even run the risk of that happening? Don't we always have at least a few Sentai and KR episodes get bumped for various events throughout the year? It's easy for me to critique a television station from my chair here, I can imagine there is so much more than meets the eye with putting all this stuff together!

Something else I was wondering: what would you guys have done in the event that you didn't get the whole show, and wound up a few minutes short, or missed it altogether?
Completed Series:

-Sentai: Jetman, Dairanger, Deka --> Zyuohger

Probably release it a few minutes short, then maybe fix it with a Blu-ray if we remember.

Are the Japanese people quite lax or lenient when it comes to fansubs, compared to Western companies?

They're quite tough on piracy. Animenewsnetwork has quite a lot of stories of people who get arrested for uploading TV shows and movies onto the net in Japan.

I know for a fact subbers don't get the thanks and respect they deserve, so for you and the rest of TV-Nihon: Thank you for your work in getting us Tokusatsu and making it understandable by subbing. To put the cherry on top, I've always enjoyed your subs the best. :)

To actually answer your question, the program needs to initialize the TV program, and for some reason it won't load. So usually the video will say 1440x1080 resolution in the corner, when it messes up, that number is 0x0. So instead of automating it, I usually try to pop in and babysit it to make sure everything works.
1440x1080? Do you stretch it out for a 1920 horizontal for releases when using TV captured sources?

Yup. TV shows don't naturally air in 1920 (at least, none of the ones we do) in Japan.

Yeah, I remember something about that. I think it has to do with bandwidth saving for broadcasters or something.

Blu-ray is the best source (obviously) for true 1080p material and (eek!) 4K.

It's the FRIIOSKY with TV Test and TV Rock (I think) as the programs that run it. Ha, all the reviews are bad. Kind of funny

Wow, I didn't realize Japan had gone with such hardcore encryption on OTA broadcasts. I had figured it was like the US and Europe, where ASTC/DVB-T air unencrypted since it's meant to be freely accessible.

Probably just Japan's paranoia about piracy again. I mean, people who want to get around it obviously are, so I don't know why they bother.

The weird thing is that the B-CAS cards that *have* to be included with each TV so it can decode the signal are actually illegal to sell or transfer. There have been actual TV ads about it. I can't imagine why except that maybe there's some piece of code it puts in the stream to denote what kind of tv/where it is so police can find anyone uploading illegally. Except that probably won't work for youtube anyway and I bought our B-CAS card off a guy on yahoo auctions so it's not actually that much of a deterrent.
