Re: Fuuma no Kojirou Live 01 released
Then surely something along the lines of "Neither of us are returning to Hakuou Academy unless the Fuuma Clan shinobi come with us!" or "Neither of us are returning to Hakuou Academy until we find the shinobi of Clan Fuuma!" would make more sense?
This is where modern fansubbing fails - a transliteration of what a character says in Japanese won't always make the most sense in another language; the target should be to make it as accurate AND understandable as possible.

Re: Fuuma no Kojirou Live 01 released
Man I am a huge Saint Seiya fan. On my yearly trips to Peru, I basically watched the whole series. The Us version (as usual) was a disgrace. I'd probably say that Saint Seiya is probably the first show that made me truly aware as to the nature of anime. I became a full anime fan with Toonami and such. Masami Kurumada is cool but he has a bad habit of making his main character always look like the same guy with a few exceptions (like BT'X). Saint Seiya is hugely popular in Latin and European cultures (or at least was a few years back, I know it regained some popularity in Europe in the last decade or so and Mexico re-ran it like forty times before finally pulling the plug). Berserk, Bleach, Naruto and many other series in fact owe many things and make many references to Saint Seiya. And so does Yaoi...as far as I know...
Sorry to go on so long about Saint Seiya but I never read nor saw Fuuma no Kojirou so when I get home I'm looking forward to seeing this. MAsami Kurumada is well known for his awesome armor designs but from the front page...is there any armor in this series? Guess I'll find out soon enough. And about that line...I haven't seen the scene but I understand that sentence just fine? I don't really see what's wrong with it...but then I haven't heard the line in Japanese either...

Then to be quite honest, you have a tragically underdeveloped grasp of the English language.Azazel wrote:makes perfect sense to me, and its how i would word it as well
Let's move it away from the exalted land of Japan but keep the sentence structure and see how much sense it makes.
"Until we bring the money of the banking corporation... I, John Smith, as well as yourself, will not return to the mall alive."
It just doesn't make sense or read in an even remotely natural manner.
And, before anyone can say that the comparison isn't the same:
"Until we bring the <item> of the <possessive entity>... I, <person>, as well as yourself, will not return to <location> alive." You could swap in anything into the brackets that meets the criteria and the sentence structure is still a jarring mess.

i find that very offensive given I am English, I have a very firm grasp of the language, and from my point of view and the other 2 qc'ers it is fine, lets leave it at that before this gets any worse.Greywing wrote:Then to be quite honest, you have a tragically underdeveloped grasp of the English language.Azazel wrote:makes perfect sense to me, and its how i would word it as well

>P.S. Saint Seiya has lots of fangirls too, due to a large number of blokes with flowing, long hair or something...
Yeah, my friend's girlfriend once came to my house and saw the Saint Seiya calendar I had with Shiryuu on it and thought it was a girl at first. Do we need a new thread about girls watching shonen anime now?
Greywing, the sentence is structurally sound English. Ranko is being dramatic, hence the unnatural tone of the phrase. Don't nitpick and insult people if you don't know what you're talking about

This looks like a very promising series. I will most likely enjoy it greatly. The only problem I have with it is the only problem I have often with shows that feature someone shooting a bow. You're doing it wrong! Ugh. It's Zyuranger all over again. When you shoot a bow, you do NOT bend the arm that draws the string down. You go straight back. Your arm should be a straight line with the arrow.
Aside from that, awesome show. I'm such an archery elitist.

I think you're a little tad too late for that comment; as a lot of girls watch shounen anime for the past couple of years or so and some of them rather end up in that Yaoi doujinshi fashion that gets cluttered in every Comic City and/or Comiket event, as well as doujinshi specialist online. The same can be said for guys watching shoujo anime, as well.takenoko wrote:Yeah, my friend's girlfriend once came to my house and saw the Saint Seiya calendar I had with Shiryuu on it and thought it was a girl at first. *Shudders at huge amounts of those Shounen Jump R-18 Yaoi doujinshi that she recently visits.*
Now that I finished watching the 1st episode and thanks to Take-san and the rest of the TV-N crew, you've just made me add Fuuma no Kojirou to the list of series that I want to add this year. And yes, what a lovely bunch of good-looking blokes this series has, which includes actors from the other series that I know.
And no matter how much these two don't really get along, the names Musashi and Kojirou will always fight against each other for many eternal years to come. It must be destiny or something...
And Fuuma no Kojirou's a very dorky character, so me like him...X3

You know, I'm reading Vagabond and I totally missed that reference. What she's referring to is this:Sho-saka wrote:And no matter how much these two don't really get along, the names Musashi and Kojirou will always fight against each other for many eternal years to come. ... Wasn't Musashi and Kojirou also the names of the Rocket Gang in Pocket Monsters?

Re: Fuuma no Kojirou Live 01 released
Random history lesson. Yes because they were named after the historical figures Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro. Miyamoto Musashi is considered the greatest samurai ever and was the author of the Book of Five Rings, a book of samurai philosophy. Sasaki Kojiro doesn't actually have many historical records and is mostly famous for getting his ass kicked by Musashi. Although according to legend, Sasaki Kojiro invented some swallow(bird) sword technique named after the fact that he could cut swallows in mid air. But since historical figures in Japan have many many legends surrounding them, eventually these famous qualities get exaggerated and you see these two characters/names everywhere. For example: Fate/Stay Night, Sasaki Kojiro appears. Yes the Team Rocket characters are also named after these two. Vagabond(manga) is a very fictionalized account of these two characters. Samurai Warriors features the characters too. So on and so on. And of course, the names resurface here too.

Re: Fuuma no Kojirou Live 01 released
Well, I knew Team Rocket was named after some Japanese dudes that got changed into Jessie and James, but I didn't know who they were before. Foreknowledge changes experience!
So which one is the girl and which one is the guy in the Japanese version?

Re: Fuuma no Kojirou Live 01 released
Musashi is the girl and Kojiro is the guy. And for those who don't realize it, the naming scheme sort of follows in the english. Often enough because of America's short history, cowboys/gun fighters are seen as equivalent to samurai. So the American counterpart is Jesse James. Get it? Jesse and James? Yeah. And the same goes for the other team. Butch Cassidy. Butch and Cassidy. In Japanese they're Kosaburo and Yamato. Well I'm not sure about Kosaburo, but Yamato? Come on. IT's a battleship, it's a period in Japanese history, it's a people, etc.
EDIT: I've ousted myself as a big Pokemon fan huh? Well I used to like the show, circa first season, now I can't stand it. The Games are still good though.
Ah looking back I didn't realize Take put a wikipedia link to Musashi. Just as good. Probably better info than mine, despite many people thinking Wiki has little credibility.

Very interesting. A fun, good-paced episode with a good mix of humor and foreshadowing of dramatic things to come. I don't know anything about Saint Seiya or, frankly, anime in general, but I like what I saw in this episode.
Yasuka Saitoh will be in this? Plus Ray Fujita? Icing on the cake to a good story.
