Alternate Title - No Saint Seiya reference?
I don't think this episode came together at all. When something dies, it's typical to have a post-mortem. Let's try to figure out why this episode didn't work.
Question: Why is Shou there if he's not the leader? Were there not enough characters in the show? Get rid of him and focus on the 9 that we have! You could easily have done away with Shou and combined all the functions that he serves with any of the KyuuRangers.
Question the two: If you have nine members and multiple targets, maybe split up and have sub stories of the KyuuRangers working in smaller teams. I'm no writer, but it seems like a more natural way of splitting up the group, telling smaller stories, without just doing a dance and a lottery each time. It's possible to write a funny show and make me care about the narrative at the same time. But KyuuRanger's constant comedy makes me not care about what's going on, since it's incessant reminder that I'm watching dumb children's show and that I'm a fool for caring about the story.
In a better show, the pool thing to teleport the KyuuTamas would probably be amusing?
Oh great, the chest piece talks too and is also a wacky character?
I was kind of excited about Stinger leading those two assassins into a trap... but he didn't have a trap waiting. And ended up running away since he was obviously outnumbered. WTF? Don't act so cool if you're just an idiot!
Instead of seeing Hame's origin story, we get told it. Tell not show? Seriously though, Hame is supposed to be a big ninja and we don't get to see any of that? Honestly, she just talks and acts like an airhead, so maybe she's not that big a deal anyway. She certainly doesn't act like a ninja...
I was feeling a bit better about this episode being a Hame and Garou episode, but Shou just shows up and tells them why Lucky is the best. Why can't the show just show Lucky doing cool and smart and hard-working things to make the viewer like him? Instead, we're told to like him since Shou said so. Unsatisfying.
Wait, is this a Pega-san focus episode? Why don't we see how Lucky tames the unruly Pega-san? Did that all happen offscreen with the dance training? This episode has so many problems from a story telling perspective!!
They're all moving the same way, all you need to do is break formation to beat them! I might as well root for Jark Matter at this point.
What? So they don't need a leader? That's a completely hollow gesture since Lucky will act like their leader anyway...
Take this episode and throw it in the trash where it belongs. Maybe 50 episodes is too long, if they can afford to waste episodes on nothing like this.
One star, I think that was the least entertaining episode yet. Hame and Garou looked like idiots. Stinger looked like an idiot. Lucky and Shou continue to be idiots.
Edit: Actually, I did like Raptor's delusions. Those were genuinely cute and fun.

Re: KyuuRanger Space.06 released
I thought I was really disappointed in the episode, but then I read Takenoko’s reaction and realized I could have been much harsher. The bottom line is that the fight over who would be leader was completely manufactured. It kinda fits with Hame’s immature personality and it did seem like she was calling the shots when it was just her, Champ, and Spada, but it still wasn’t needed. It doesn’t help that I tend to agree with her gripes about Lucky. The trouble with taming Pega is the first thing we’ve seen Lucky have to work at since he met Hame and the others. Everything else has happened by luck or blind faith, which says nothing about a person’s leadership ability.
Ironically, I could forgive the whole “we need a leader” plot despite the commander’s existence because I see it as the difference between a general and a field commander - typically, there’s a someone in charge of each unit out in the field to adjust tactics as needed despite another leader existing higher up the chain of command. But again, Lucky hasn’t really shown himself to care about tactics - just rushing in and attacking full force.
Wow, that Pegasus shield did not hold up well for filming. Pretty bad when you can see the creases where it got bent in its debut scene.
I did a double take at Raptor doing the dance in a nightgown.

Re: KyuuRanger Space.06 released
Pegasus looks cheap up close. Does not hold up well in HD
Billiard Kyuutama was amusing but ultimately waste of time?
Dance segment irritating but Naaga clearly has some dance skills.
If we get a Kyulette that doesn't throw out Red's Kyuutama I will probably die of shock.
Assuming we use 8 Kyuutama, the probability of Red getting picked by the Kyulette (for all rounds) is as follows -
1 round = 62.5%
2 rounds = 39.1%
3 rounds = 24.4%
4 rounds = 15.2%
5 rounds - 9.5%
Probability factor will go down if Stinger's Kyuutama gets added to the mix.

What is this? Third time in a row red was picked?
Maybe we should keep a chart or list on the wiki of the chosen Rangers for the episode.

Re: KyuuRanger Space.06 released
The fact that Naga was the most enjoyable character despite the fact he spent the episode on the ship really says a lot about the writing.
And I assume Red has to get picked every episode because of the modular design of the mecha. If they don't have Leo Voyager then they can't make the robot.

Re: KyuuRanger Space.06 released
Apparently liking this episode leaves me in the minority but I will agree it wasn't the best. It took me a couple of tries to get through it because every time Sentai has done an episode where everybody fights for the leader position it typically leads to one of the non-Red Rangers being named as leader but the Red still acts as leader in everything. Right now I can only remember Gekiranger and Ran being named leader over Jan off the top of my head but I know there's been a couple more. It's just been a while since I've actively watched the new Sentai as they came out.
Unless people start getting new mechs soon that form more than legs or arms then Red is always going to be in the away party.
I liked it enough to give it three stars.
The whole dance practice also made me cringe because I seem to also be in the minority, with absolutely despising both the ending song and dance. I could put up with it in other recent shows by just ignoring it but I'm sick the nonsense bad songs and equally bad dancing. Why can't Sentai go back to the nice ending themes that are actually relevant to the show or are just nice (Looking at Gaoranger, Hurricanger, Gokaiger, Boukenger, and others as examples.)

Re: KyuuRanger Space.06 released
i give it a 2 star. why? coz i thought it would be Hame focus episode, and yet it's not really.
hopefully 1 day she'll have a decent background story. or does TOEI afraid bringing ninja/shinobi again after nininger failure???
almost agree with many disappointing things above, especially from takenoko. but well, i do like some of the moral that this show tells the kids out there.

Re: KyuuRanger Space.06 released
This is a disappointingly bad episode since it tells me that the characters act like idiots, it tells us about the characters instead of showing their feats to the audience to make them likeable, the kyutama billiard is just a time waster realistically since I need a power up don't waste time by playing billiard to give me a powerup while I'm in combat so just drop it in the hole and give it to me damn it, the Pegasus chest armor talking and being its own character is just unnecessary especially since this is suppose to be a Hami episode so fuck you ehh and Stinger doesn't just simply get away from them but decides to fight them to get an idea of how they fight sure but that's not a good strategy really, especially when you don't have backup or anyone at command taking notes of the new enemies & Shou what are you really and what is your purpose if the team doesn't have a leader because everyone is a super star I call bull on that, doesn't help that they do have a bull on their team. But I still love Naga in this episode however despite him at this point being relegated to being mission control

Re: KyuuRanger Space.06 released
What's the point of having 9+ main characters if you're going to "roulette" (like a slap in the face to viewers) and only deploy 5 at a time? It just screams of a concession to budget, actor availability, film production demands, etc.
we are here to take the blame; to take the taunts and live the shame
we are here to make you feel; it terrifies you, but it's real

Hame and spada were chosen as third time too Problem with red is he has the main body so if he is not down there it will take time for him to launch perhaps? I bet there will be groups without red but it is too soon.takenoko wrote:What is this? Third time in a row red was picked?

Re: KyuuRanger Space.06 released
I'll give the series three more episodes before it gets cancelled. How did it fair in Japan in terms of ratings, someone TELL ME?
This episode was a big mess. Stop the dancing and get to the secret of Earth. If Hammy is supposed to be from a ninja family then she should show her talents and take the lead. I hated Stinger's lone wolf approach because their is safety in numbers and there's no telling how many assassins are waiting in the shadows.
The Pegasus armor was a joke because I thought that it allowed the user to fly like raptor or create some shield made of light. If they wanted to have another character in the team they should build a robot body and go from there. I hope that the other globe powers aren't literal pieces of space junk.
For me the only thing I really like about the series are the weapons because they transform into so many forms. Raptor's could use an attachment for a bigger attack though.
I don't know who is coming up with the bad series, but they need to go. I've liked series like Ohranger and Go-Busters no problem but KyuuRanger is just bad. I know that Kyoryuger was campy, but it wasn't as nearly as bad as what we're seeing now. I honestly would watch dead bodies in the hot sun then any more bad Sentai and I can do both. Seriously I know a coroner that works at a body farm.

Agreed. If you have a ninja on the team, show how they became apart of the Sentai. I want to see the full back stories of all the Rangers.Revorse wrote:They shafted my girl Hame. I thought she was gonna get an origin story.

Lucky really is lucky. It'd be nice if they did get another core mecha with either the next member or one they could all summon. Doubt it's going to happen though.takenoko wrote:Oh, for some reason I didn't put that together. Dang, so they really can't go without Red.
