Hey look, Salamandora, from Ultraman 80. Salamandora's name in Japanese is "サラマンドラ", while the salamander is written as "サラマンダー". See the resemblance? Could possibly be a portmanteau of the words "Salamander" and "Dragon" (ドラゴン) as well.
As for "Formation Yamato", I think it's named after "Yamato Takeshi", the name of the human form of Ultraman 80. Or it could have been pure coincidence. Haven't watched 80, so I'm just guessing really.
