I rarely nitpick, but why does everyone like to call him Ryubee? Though he does look like he can sting you, his name is Ryubei. xD

Ryubei == Ryubee, as far as Japanese pronunciation goes, and sometimes even when Romanizing the names.gh0stwrit3r wrote:I rarely nitpick, but why does everyone like to call him Ryubee? Though he does look like he can sting you, his name is Ryubei. xD

Ehh, there's actually a slight pronunciation difference between "bee" and "bei" in Japanese, but it's hardly noticeable to the untrained ear.

Ryubee? What's so funny about this name, I don't get it... I should use Ryubei instead

Yeah, don't listen to Dimension Crash, he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. He's name is Ryuubei and the Japanese pronunciation is closer to "bay" than "bee"

Re: W 14 released
Okay, maybe I was misunderstood?
Bee (べえ) [BEEH] would more or less sound the same as Bei (べい) [BAY]. Sure, Lunagel, there's probably some minute difference that I can't personally hear, but Takenoko, I was taught to treat an "E I" sound as being the same as a long "E". Hence, Bei == Bee.
Doesn't mean that Ryubei should be spelled Ryubee, but it does mean that they sound virtually identical to most foreigners.

Re: W 14 released
If you write it like that, people will assume it'll take on the same sound as the English word for bee which would be (bii). If the Japanese chose to write Ryubee to be quirky, that'd be one thing, but if someone else does it, it'd appear purposefully deceptive. The proper romanization for his name is Ryuubei with the sound rising at the end
