Ending phrase question.
I know my Japanese is very lacking, but at the end of every Agito, you have the phrase 'Awaken That Soul,' for (going at this phonetiacally) "Mezamaoru! Soul Tamashi!" but what I hear is "Awaken (the) Soul(s) Soul." Am I hearing a word wrong or is it another one of those 'different meanings, same phrase' deals?

So literally, it would be "Awaken! That soul!"?

Pretty much. Keep in mind that "awaken" here is a command so it's one complete thought. It's just that it sounds more pithy in Japanese as two sentences whereas it sounds downright retarded in English.

Going off of what you said, couldn't it be (if it was translated in english by a company) 'Awaken the soul!'?Lunagel wrote:Pretty much. That could also be a reasonable translation, but "sono" is often associated with "that".

When translation, we don't have to comply with strict or literal translation. What' s most important to me, is expression for the fans to get the meaning of it. めざめる Mezameru, その魂 Sono tamashii, it's mean: Awakens the Soul!

So much agree. (bolded for emphasis)Ryumeiou Salamandes wrote:When translation, we don't have to comply with strict or literal translation. What' s most important to me, is expression for the fans to get the meaning of it. めざめる Mezameru, その魂 Sono tamashii, it's mean: Awakens the Soul!
And as to what it should be "Awakens the Soul" or "Awaken the Soul" would both the adequate and "correct" imo.
I prefer Awaken the Soul... because of the imperative it has and because of the whole "see you next time" thing it is doing.
