Well I don't know about Korean guys but some of the girly looking Japanese guy is actually quite buff and have a manly voice. I guess they just wanna be a bishounen huh?chronoxiong wrote:I can't tell them apart either. I'm just going along with the ride. I will never understand Japanese and their odd taste for girly-looking men. Same as how I don't understand Korean guys wearing eye shadows.

you trying to say all asians look alike? lol jk. it's not difficult to tell who is who in gaim. they all wear distinct outfits. kouta and micchy wears blue and white as their team colors. sometimes micchy even wears pink capri pants which is obvious. kaito has his stylish red and black outfit. takatora is in a suit and so on.

Yeah, but when they're not wearing their outfits it's hard to tell. Like when they're just being themselves in personal pictures or whatever.

That's... how people with prosopagnosia tell people apart. That doesn't really say much of the ability of the average westerner to tell them apart.xshinox wrote:you trying to say all asians look alike? lol jk. it's not difficult to tell who is who in gaim. they all wear distinct outfits. kouta and micchy wears blue and white as their team colors. sometimes micchy even wears pink capri pants which is obvious. kaito has his stylish red and black outfit. takatora is in a suit and so on.

Technically it's an evolutionary response. You respond better and recognize better those you believe are in your "tribe" and therefore it's easy for you to tell them apart. The "foreign" people are strange and possibly a danger so your brain literally just refuses to see them as anything but all the same so you feel less guilty if you have to attack/defend yourself (see: all villain minions ever, everyone wears a mask so you don't feel bad when the hero kills them)
It's possible to train yourself to see the differences but it's very difficult. I still have issues telling blondes apart.

Nah, it's purely environmental. If you have little contact with black people, you're probably going to think they all look the same. Because you're not going to bother to learn the little details that distinguish between different people.
Like anything else, it's all learned. The same could be said about listening to Japanese. If you never hear it, it probably sounds super foreign. But the more you hear it, the more you can tease apart its components or recognize patterns. We're all just big pattern recognition bots, after all.

Wow. I've never heard that before but that concept sounds pretty interesting.Lunagel wrote:Technically it's an evolutionary response. I don't really have too much trouble telling apart how tthey look. However when it comes to voices soo many Japanese voices sound similar. When it comes to guessing English VAs, I'm pretty decent. But toss some seiyuu at me and I'm hopeless. The only voice that always sticks out to me is Riku's Japanese one. His voice is pretty distinct.
