They technically are different.

Muskmelon is of the Genus Cucumis and Species melo (Cucumis melo)

A Cantaloupe is the same, but is of the subspecies melo variant cantalupensis. (Cucumis melo subsp melo var. cantalupensis )

It might not seem like a lot of a difference. Evolutionary, they are related, but they are still distinct enough to be considered different plants.

Oh okay, but apparently people call both of them cantaloupe?

Besides knowing they're different variants of the same species, it really doesn't help me distinguish between the two. On wiki, it looks like Muskmelons have some indentations on the outside, while cantaloupes are more smooth. But inside they all look the same, right?

I think most people call them cantaloupes is because they don't know the difference. It's not like a Clementine/Mandarin or Chinese Gooseberry/Kiwifruit were there are different name for the same thing.

The major distinguishing feature (other than the grooves) is that cantaloupes have a hard rind and the flesh is supposed to be orange, while a muskmelon is supposed to have green flesh.

But I digress, I know far too much about fruit biology lol. kyoichikiller90 is correct. In Japan Muskmelons are incredibly expensive and are considered a delicacy, and there is a clear differentiation between them and cantaloupes. I'm assuming that Zangetsu's melon is supposed to be a muskmelon based on how they are regarded as premium fruit in Japan (and Zangetsu clearly being top tier armoured rider in the series).

I suppose while we are talking about fruit, why not mention ones you don't like?

I really cannot stand Pineapple. People look at me in disgust when I say this, but I really cannot stomach the stuff.

From wiki, apparently people call anything with the orange flesh cantaloupe. It's just one of those words with an evolving meaning. But I have to confess that I've always thought green melon fruit was just a variant of cantaloupe. I never really put much thought into the difference since the fruit is so similar

I like pineapple fine. My dad used to bring home a whole pineapple, cut it into slices. Then we'd dip the pieces in salt water to counter the sourness of it. I don't know if that's normal, but that's how our family ate it.

I don't like pears personally. I don't like the texture, and the sweetness is not to my liking. I also don't like apples very much. I can eat it, but I'd never seek it out when there's other fruit available.

Of the main Riders, bananas and oranges are my favorite. I like grapes that aren't too sour, so mostly black grapes or green ones. Reds tend to be too sour for me.

A fruit I dislike? I'm not a fan of mangoes. The flavour is weird and the flesh is revolting, like putting a spoonful of decaying, congealed pork fat in your mouth.

I remember having a Mango once when I was 10 or 11 and not really liking it. I should have another crack at some stage.

Hate Grapefruit, also the peel/skin of oranges, lemons, and limes... And Bitter Melon but I don't know many people who say they like it... As a general rule I just straight up dislike bitter things.

Say, what's the difference between grapefruit and blood orange? They look identical. I have never had blood orange (actually only became aware of such a fruit thanks to Gaim).

I don't particularly hate any fruit, but I don't like eating custard apples, grapes or pomegranates, it's bothersome.

Oh, that's just like how people dip sliced green mango (crunchy and very sour stuff) with salt and chilli.

Grapefruit and Sweet Orange are both Citrus that are commonly believed to have evolved from a cross of tangerines and pomelo. It is thought that Blood Orange originally mutated from a Sweet Orange.

So like the whole Muskmelon/Cantaloupe thing, they are closely related, but different.

Blood oranges are like oranges, but with red meat. I don't really like them since they're more sour than a regular orange.

Grapefruits are probably 3-4 times the size of an orange, and can have yellowish to pinkish meat. I guess they're pretty sour as well, but you can eat them okay by themselves. In Tom and Jerry cartoons you can see them being served with breakfast sliced in half and with sugar on top to sweeten it.

Not sure but I think clementine and mandarin are not the same fruit. From what I heard, clementine are the result of breeding a mandarin and an orange.

Same species. If you compare the genome sequence, they are almost identical apart from several non-coding sites. Nobody is 100% sure if it is due to cross breeding or due to mutation.

Hm... Interestingly enough, I do not particularly enjoy citrus-y fruits like Oranges, Lemons or Pineapples. I don't mind them, but don't like them that much either. If you ask me, I'm all about the fruity-fruits, Melons, Bananas, Mangos, Cherries, Strawberries, etc...

This is true especially true for fruit-flavored candies like Skittles or gummies. Always give the citrus flavored ones to my friends.
