What do you mean? Most people's names mean something. Even in English. Like if your last name was Cooper, your ancestor probably repaired caskets. It's just most of them don't beat you over the head with their meanings.
It's just a matter of subtlety. Sonozaki Raito = Good. Sonozaki Right = Bad. If there's no subtlety, you don't have a joke, because you've spoiled it with your clumsy delivery.

Though, even with every name having some tie or origin, Japan in particular loves matching the characters names to their theme or over all plot more often than not. Ties into their culture of puns and word play.
