As much as I love you for bringing up Lilith, she's apocryphal and not really in common knowledge, particularly for a non-Christian country like Japan. If you say "First Woman" most people will obviously think of Eve first.

And while I don't know if Urobutchi knows Anno, he does know Kinoko Nasu (of TYPE-Moon fame). Heck, they play RPGs (the tabletop kind) together. And between them they've pulled up some fairly obscure pieces of classical myth and legend. Gilgamesh of Uruk isn't that widely known outside of those specialising in studying middle-eastern myth and legend and I know I'd never heard of Diarmuid Ua Duibhne until learning about Fate/Zero.

there's also the question though about if it's appropriate to introduce such heavily religious uncommon information in a kid's show, and if they do if they take it a step further and make the first woman the mother of all monsters.

I dunno Luna, I think a lot of Japanese know about Lilith. It seems to come up a lot in stories.

Japan just has its own version of other culture's mythology at times where they're really informed on obscure aspects of other culture's religions and mythologies. Probably can be attributed to Evangelion and the like as a poster said above. Heck, Go-Busters had Gog and Magog.

Really it seems to come down to the interests or research done by the writer for material or how deeply they study the stories or religions which, since Christianity isn't such a untouchable 'hey you can't make fun of this you're offending me!' thing in Japan they're more likely to find and refer to things that are not ordinary Christianity knowledge as writers are in America, or even Europe... Is what I should have brought up earlier.

Rest in peace, Roshuo. You were the most sympathetic antagonist yet.

Really I think when you're doing something mythic, you're going to research and dig up all kinds of apocrypha. The SMT series is a major franchise and Lilith has been a huge part of it. I don't think it's too obscure at all.

Anyway, now that I said it, a lot of things just lined up in my mind. The forbidden fruit is clearly a golden apple (perhaps working in a golden apple of the Hesperides reference here - the apple Eris threw at some goddesses that ended up causing the Trojan war). Nice mashup of the conflict symbolism along with the biblical angle of Eve tempting Adam with an apple. And Eve was put up to it by a Snake aka the devil... which while the actual fruit came from Roshuo it was probably Sagara's plan all along. And Sagara is not one of the Femushin, so now I'm really pretty sure he and First Woman came from either the dimension that Helheim invaded directly previously or even much further up the chain...

I wonder if Sagara isn't also Femushinmu, but died long ago and his spirit persisted. The queen was said to be dead, but she came back just long enough to say goodbye to Roshuo, so maybe Sagara is the same way. He can't move on until he's satisfied.

The camera work in this episode felt really different. Was the director or director of photography someone new?

But, again Alessar, the writers of the Shin Megami Tensei series, did the extended research, went deep into lore myth and so on, partly because it was more aimed for an adult audience.

I can't remember which episode, but hasn't the series already explicitly linked Helheim Forest influencing human myth and legend previously? With oblique mentions to both the Garden of Eden and The Apple of Hesperides before (though I always remember that one as one of the Twelve Labours Hercules/Heracles. The one where he couldn't get into the garden so he agreed to hold the sky up while Atlas retrieved the apple).

No, they're not the same people.

Anyway

You can pick either "Going to" or "Gonna" because they are the same. But there's no such thing as "Gonna to".

Ya know, just random thought popped into my head. Every refers to our favorite DJ as 'The Snake', and mystery Mai is the First Woman which, in some cases would mean Eve... Where the hell is Adam in all of this?
Maybe something much simpler...dum dum dum....'First Woman' is time travelling Mai that intended to change history ?... (the current Mai ended up having red right eye, the First Woman also had red eye on her right eye).. Maybe she has done this several iterations (time loop) in order to save Kouta. But, by the end of the series, Kouta will sacrifice himself for a greater good, he becomes a concept, rewrites the law of universe so that Helheim forest cannot invade any other worlds anymore, and nobody will remember him except Mai. And in the upcoming Movie Taisen, Mai was distraught, she slowly loses herself in order to bring back Kouta, which she managed to do. But, in the end, that means she sacrifices herself, and Kouta can live happily in Zawame.

....

oh wait, this sounds familiar !

Fantastic episode!!! I wasn't expecting this much brutality with the way Reshuo was killed, repeated stabbings and impaling. I'm glad Gaim became darker and darker over the course of the series instead of a sudden massive switch. This by far is the darkest KR since Blade (won't be surprised if Kouta's and Kaito's fate will be almost the same as Kenzaki's and Hajime's)
Complete. Start Up. 3. 2. 1. Time Out. Reformation.
