I re-watched both 37 and 38, and to me, that was a sudden jump in the switch to whom the actual villain was. There was no rhyme or reason then for the assistant to make off with the sauce in a bottle. I can't think of a good reason how does running off with a small amount of the chef's secret would stop him from succumbing to 090. Even the very quick scene of Rinna and Honganji didn't explain it.

Oh and another thumbs up to Krim in person.
