Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
I think it tends to be in all-caps, right? Like TOQGER or TQG?
Anyway, let's just all agree on a completely arbitrary spelling for this new series which in no reflects any possible pronounciation of the katakana, thus avoiding all arguments.
Shuriken Sentai Shushutto!

Middle of the road wins again!
But yeah, I was originally going to spell it out in all caps to match the official way of doing it, but QC quickly dissuaded me from doing that. It just didn't look very good that way.

Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
Sorry if my last post sounded belligerent, as it certainly wasn't meant to be. I was just genuinely confused as to why it was even a debate. To me, it's as silly as asking "Should we romanize ボウケンジャー as Boukensha?". Basically in my mind it breaks down like this, but please correct me if I'm missing something.
Ninninja
Pros:
-More resemblance towards the "ninja" side of the pun
Cons:
-Ignores the kana
-implies that there is no pun at all
-ignores traditional -ranger suffix that we have zero reason to believe has been abandoned
Ninninger
Pros:
-Accurately represents the kana
-preserves the pun
-fits in line with traditional -ranger suffix
-is the spelling that the vast majority of people are using in various corners of the fandom and will likely continue to do so regardless of what T-N chooses in the end
-is the most likely to appear as the "official" spelling in later material based on historical patterns
Cons: ???
Ninninjer
Pros: All the same pros of "Ninninger"
Cons:
-Looks pretty ugly (inelegant at least)
-compromises something that doesn't really need compromising (See above Boukensha example)
-feels really try-hard at best, pretentious at worst (not to start sub wars, but it feels very O-T)
-is very unlikely to appear as the "official" spelling in later material
-abandons visual continuity with every other ジャー series
Nin'ninjyar
Pros: Fuck the police
Cons: None
|\|1N-にnGjyear
Pros: Perfection incarnate
Cons: May cause seizures due to how well it conveys information

Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
I lean more towards having it as Ninninger myself.
I see it more as a portmanteau of "nin nin" and ranger, most likely because of Disgaea with Flonne.
http://youtu.be/uOqpceTg6FU?t=2m42s
I think I've seen it a few other times where "nin nin" is used as some sort of ninja sound effect. I can't remember any exact sources aside from the Disgaea one though.
Anyway, my 2 cents.

No offense Mac, but those pictures look like someone photoshopped those names. Also where's your source?

Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
As far as I can tell, it seems it's from an issue of "TV Magazine".. given that it was included in a bunch of other scans from that.
I don't buy those though, so I can't supply physical proof, if you wish for some.

Looks like stickers in the magazines and since we're close enough to when the magazines go on sale I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
It seems like it is! Sorry, there appears to be a difference between ninjas and ningers, so it's going to be important to acknowledge that. Hopefully it'll be explained in the story.

Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
I like the idea of Ninjas and Ningers being individually different things. I would have happily accepted whatever you guys went with (T-N's subs are consistently pleasing to me), but my folder would have been "Ninninger" regardless XD
Also, yes. I totally registered just to say this. I find Ninninger's designs super exciting and even though I've fallen behind on Sentai series (last series I watched in full was Goseiger), I intend to follow this series as it airs

It's good to differentiate between things, so thanks for making this decision. Unlike a certain other group and a certain police force that is special.
Seen:
Super Sentai: Fiveman onwards
Kamen Rider: Ichigou-Skyrider, all the Heisei/Reiwa series except the American shows.
Precure: DokiDoki-Go Pri

Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
Yeah. There's nothing wrong with going against the majority or having controversial opinions. I rather had fun with this thread for the most part. But there's nothing wrong with admitting that a previous notion doesn't work and correcting it either. Although, it's going to be a pain spending a year differentiating between ninja and ninger and spelling remembering the correct number of n's in Ninninger. Hopefully it'll keep qc on their toes.
That said, I'm disappointed that we're not going to be spelling it Aka Ninja, since I think that looks really good.

Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
Quick off topic question; is there any HQ scans/screenshots of the team or individual member yet? The TV Asahi page havent upload the member render and was looking for some to work on early splashes.

Re: Shuriken Sentai name discussion topic
My mag from January just had a page about it. Probably in this month's mag which should be out in a few days.
