Finished watching Garo :)

Post by xiiliea »

So, I finally started watching the first season of Garo, 2 weeks ago and finished it today. So here are my thoughts since take asked me to share them :)

-The first half of the series was 'meh'. Monster appear monster killed. With slow progress in the story.
-Didn't really like the transform animation for Kouga at first. It seemed too serene and peaceful when it's supposed to be an epic transformation.
-After the episode about Taiga, it started to become really epic, with so much interesting stuffs being revealed. (The Taiga episode was probably the 2nd best episode in the series, after the last episode)
-I really liked the part about Kouga never giving up, training for years and always attempting to check if he was ready to hold his father's sword.
-Why must every final boss in Garo be a naked woman? (I watched some parts of Makai no Hana before while qcing them)
-Kouga seems to be immortal. He keeps getting slashed by a sword and gets up like nothing serious happened.
-Really insanely epic fight on that metal ring in the last episode.

-Also, up till now, I've only watched kids tokus like Ultraman, Sentai and Rider. So some parts of the series looked really brutal to me.

-And also, Kodama wins one of my favorite actors award :D He really looks super cool when he fights. I was kind of surprised how strong he actually was, after seeing him only giving envelopes in the first half of the series.

Oh yeah... I already watched the series since April 2013. And I really liked (most fully) the episode 20, which Kouga saves Kaoru's life by getting rid of that fruit. That makes me sad.

And I've already done contributing episodes to the wiki.

Well I dunno... maybe because of the magic coat?

Yeah... it's kinda heavy to carry that Garo blade for young Kouga.

I think the bloodless slashes is just the style of the series. They rarely show open wounds or bleeding, it's all implied.

I also thought the series was meh at first, but now I find it really endearing.

Haha, every final boss really is a woman. Maybe we should start noting it as a director's trademark for Amemiya. I think he just likes designing them that way.

Kodama being Mark Musashi should have been a big hint that he'd do some kickass action later.

Adult toku like Garo is great (and so rare). It's pretty hard to do right, as well.

Can't wait to hear what you think of Beast of the White Night.

I'll always love GARO. Even if the story is kind of average for the first chunk of the series, the live action makes up for it.

I've finished watching Beast of the White Night, Red Requeim and Kiba Gaiden, so here are my thoughts on them.

Beast of the White Night:
-I don't really like Rin, because she's annoying.
-Dan is a really cool Makai Knight. It's nice that he uses a spear for a change.
-The part where past characters appear is really well done. I can finally get to see people like Taiga again!
-More Kodama action! I like the way he winks at Kouga.
-Superb action scenes like the one in the tree and the one in the jungle where they're falling through it.
-The horrors are really creepy. Especially the white mask one. Didn't help that I watched it at midnight.

Red Requeim:
-Seems like someone went overboard with porn
-Wasn't really as great as Beast of the White Night. Too many boring talking sessions.
-I kept expecting Rekka to cast some spell when she sticks her brush out, but most of the time she doesn't. Kind of anti-climactic.
-Overall the movie was still kind of okay, with an interesting plot.

Kiba Gaiden:
-I like the way Barago talks when he tells his story. It's in a calm yet silently evil manner.
-Bado's teleport is superbly cool looking.
-I think they used too many animations, which occupied a large part of the show. Some parts which could have looked really great with real acting and effects were instead portrayed by animations.
-Don't really like the woman telling her story in english. Just seems wierd to me when she is talking to Kaoru.
-Overall really nice story telling of Barago's past.

Awww, Rin is adorable. I think Beast of the White Night is one of the best things in tokudom. Kiba was also really fun too.
