Talking Kodama makes watching this worthwhile IMO.

I always get confused when this is supposed to be watched. Its amusing, but is that pencil what she uses later?

And here we have the Garo equivalent to a bizarre as hell Kamen Rider HBV. Mark's rant his hilarious, and IMO, makes this whole thing.

There was no TV version for Gaiden. This version has Mark's English lines subbed. Plus minor translation changes

"Why does he have a kansai accent? I can't understand him at all." That whole scene was awesome.

Mark's lines are what stand out in memory from this special, but really everyone gets their wacky character moment. It's a little surprising that Asami got such a big segment, since she shows up in the first (two?) episodes and then never appears again, but Rei and Kouga (the non-creepy black stocking version) don't show up at all.

Silva and Zaruba's bit is pretty funny. Since Silva's threatening to tell Kaoru that she only has 100 days to live since the time she was showered in Horror blood, it would have to be set before episode 17.

As wacky as most of this is, the two scenes with Kaoru's parents are really moving. They give the special a really broad emotional range.

/me puts on his pedant hat

Actually she gets sick from Kaoru's food in episode four, that's why they're in the hospital. And she gets picked up by a guy, leaving Kaoru alone with the bar hostess Horror in episode 7/8? She might have another appearance that's slipping my mind, but she pops up once in a while

Oh neat. Those completely slipped my mind, especially the hospital one. Glad I was mistaken.

It wasn't filmed live but it was definitely filmed on a stage. Probably budget cuts.

Or it was an intentional stylistic choice to highlight the meta/Brechtian things they were doing with this.

Audio of the SD version for the Blu-Ray release is delayed. Is it only for me?

The audio is off. The HD audio is fine though.
