Re: Garo Red Requiem Movie Released
Wow...what can i say abotu this movie?
On one side the story is not bad, but it certainly works a lot better if you watch it as sort a fo a spin-off to the main series and not as a continuation, kind of like what they do with anime movies, they usually don´t have any effect on the plot of the series and only serve to sum up what the series is for the broader audiences. That´s what this movie felt to me, if i watch it thinking of it as a sequel to Garo, it falls flat on the floor.
Even if i think that the plot was OK, the fight scenes didn´t cut it for me, i could tell form the first scene that something was of and after a while i could finally tell. First the camera angles they used weren´t nearly as creative as thay had been on the series, and second, the pacing and speed of the movements was really slow. I really think this was due to the implement of 3D, if you watch the choreography it becomes clear that it is simplified in order to make certain movements highlited, specially when they add light effects during kicks and the like. I might be nitpicking but i think that the fight scenes suffered a lot because of this.
I have to admit that the special effects where really good, the horror looked great and the garo armor as awesome as ever. The only downside is that i don´t recall the use of the actual armor (not the CGI one), that was a bit of a let down but the overall effects were great. The only thing that bothered me was rekka´s special attack, sure, it looks cool, but it is clearly a gimmick created for the 3D and by the third time she uses it it becomes ridiculous.
All in all, it was a good movie, but the action could have been better and as part of the Garo franchise it doesn´t stand to much, Beast of the White Night was a better movie in every aspect, and that was a TV movie, not a theatrical release, and that is a shame.

Spoiler
I am trying to avoid spoilers for the movie since I haven't seen it yet and I am hoping this is alright for me to post here (since I belive this is the most recent thread for Garo) but does anyone know ifn TV Nihon will be subbing the new series?
Oh, *hee* here's the link to the only info I got. It's Fujita's Ray's Twitter.

Hope they do. ^_^

Re: Garo Red Requiem Movie Released
I confess to a lot of disappointment considering this is Garo, Kaoru was only shown once before vanishing, and the tone of the movie wasn't even bone chilling like the TV series was. Action wise it was lacking somewhat as well, the CGI was definitely so poor as to be non-existent and part of what made Garo so popular was a mix of horror/romance with a good plot. Speaking of, in this movie they have none.
Final thoughts: This movie was made of fail, I'm sorry, but I just thought 'Meh, this movie cannot be called Garo' after reaching the end and hoping it would get better after a lackluster start.

Re: Garo Red Requiem Movie Released
I found this enjoyable, not completely enjoyable. It feels like a little something was missing from it. I don't think that it was the writing so much as the acting that was getting to me. The timing of some of the fights seemed a little off, but I'm chocking it up to the 3D effects. With the 3D effects, it would be much more striking, but with regular 2D it just throws the timing off just a tad.
I actually found all but one character enjoyable.
Rekka...
I don't know what it is, either her lines, or her acting. Just that her character seems so 'simple'. Its the 'Angry Girl Bent on Revenge', bit that really make me see her so shallow. It seems she's trying to pull off 'emotionless' and isn't doing a good job of it. I actually think some of the 'victims' of Karma were better actors than the actor for Rekka. Her fight choreography was terrible, it wasn't smooth or flowing. Then there is her appearance, most of the other Main Garo Female Characters are cute, pretty, or really sexy (or a combo of all three.) She looks like that angry bitchy girl that no one considers talking to at the dance. The only character I think is more unattractive than her is the little girl in the pink dress, but then she's just plain creepy. I can't tell if they are transposing an adult head on a child's body, or its a dwarf.
Then again it could be her "Thunder Thighs"...
They aren't toned, or muscular, it looks like she needs to go and actually exercise. It might be why her fight choreography was so off. Almost all the other 'fighting females' (including the horrors) looks like they have done something as part of their exercise routine that lets them keep quick and toned. Her movements are not graceful, and quick; they are heavy, and slow. She gives off an impression that she is out of shape, even though she might not be.
Aside from Rekka, I think some of the effects were pretty cool. I did enjoy story, and liked how Kouga seems to be 'maturing' into a Makai Knight. I did pick up on the bit of what he learned from Rekka's father and how he tried to teach some of it to her. Seems like he isn't really bound to one area, he's now the guy the Watchdogs call when they need something done.

People say that the real world isn't black or white, its shades of gray. I prefer to think its a rainbow spectrum, when any color is dark enough, its black, when any color is light enough, its white. Yet, there is a spectrum of cultures and values.

I agree with what pretty much everyone is saying, its a very "meh" movie. Not bad, but definitely lacking some of the magic of the Garo series. It definitely had the boobies Garo is known for, thats for sure.

I finally sat down and watched the movie. Good to see Kouga again. But it was lacking as most said. Let's hope the Kiba Gaiden and the new series don't disappoint.
On another note, it's the Head Teacher from GTO live action! Wow, he got older. Good to see him in acting after so long since I've seen him.

Re: Garo Red Requiem Movie Released
I've been meaning to post since day 1, but Take helpfully said pretty much everything I wanted to. (Especially the stuff about Jabi and Beast of the White Knight.)
- bad acting from Rekka and the old makai priest guy
- story is a mish mash. Stuff that didn't need to be dug up was dug up, like Kouga having his scene with Rekka's dad and "finding a motivation to fight"; it's like the writer watched 8 tv episodes and then went off half-cocked.
- clearly they just wanted an excuse to do 3D special effects, but the story could have been a heck of a lot better.
- I think even Konitan was dragged down by the movie, there was one scene he almost eye-rolled while choking out his lines
I wish they had (aside from a better actress) done something more interesting. Karma was a neat villain and the premise wasn't bad. A really good twist that would have made the whole movie work is if Rekka had been told she couldn't be a makai knight and then tried to be one anyway. (Look at her outfit: it's Xena meets a Makai knight's trenchcoat.) Her dad was killed by Karma so probably his sword was destroyed, but I thought she could forge her own (imperfect!) short sword and armor and be a renegade makai knight. Kouga would be all, "like I listen to the watchdogs at this point? Whatever, let's kill the horror, then you take off before whoever they sent to rein you in (coughcoughZero) finds you." She could have inherited her father's sword during the finale inside the mirror. The makai priest needed a much better motivation - like his daughter could have been Karma's female flunky, possessed, who he was trying to get back. Something a little meatier.

Re: Garo Red Requiem Movie Released
Who was the actress who played Karma? She's quite pretty.
Also I agree with Saejima Kouga(User, not the character), Red Requiem is a great movie. Sure it did not have Rei, Gonza, Jabi or Kaoru, but I thought the branching outside of the norm from the show was a nice change. And I dont get the hate on Rekka, I thought the Actress's acting was alright.

I forget. Some porn star. She's voiced by Kaoru's actress though, so she does sort of make an appearance in the movie.

Re: Garo Red Requiem Movie Released
I have to admit, I just recently watched the entire series: all 25 eps in 1st season, tv special, movie, and 25 eps of 2nd season all in one go. I had downloaded the entire series because a friend of mine said it was good, but hadn't gotten around to actually WATCHING it. I absolutely loved the first season; I couldn't stop watching it except for some time to go to class and then it was right back to it until I finished the entire thing in about 2 days
Then of course I watched the tv special, Beast of the White Night, and thought it was awesome.
then came the movie...which after I started watching it realized that only the first half had downloaded, so I had to stop and re-download the movie...that was pretty annoying ...but I digress...
while I did enjoy the movie, what with all the extra-special cgi, I agreed with Takenoko's first comment that they didn't really add a lot to the storyline through this movie, especially not having enough time to really do a much character development for Rekka, cause I thought even with the thunder thighs that she kicked ass. I just felt she was too much like the old Kouga before he met Kaoru. And of course there was no Kaoru, not unless you count the Young Makai Dragon Rekka gave him . There really were none of the characters we'd come to know and love from the 1st season and tv special. Of course, many of the thoughts were what I felt before watching the 2nd season which I think helped redeem the movie a bit. It really fleshed this movie out and gave it a new purpose as a bridge between the 2 seasons. I was so happy when I realized they used Rekka and Shiguto in the 2nd season, especially Rekka. You could see that the events in the movie, although it didn't seem to affect her much at the time, gave her something to ponder while separated from Kouga, thus really increasing her maturity level greatly in between the movie and when she appeared in the 2nd season. All in all, it was still a GARO movie, even if at the time it felt like it didn't deliver what we felt it should have, having watched the 1st season and tv special. I may not give it two thumbs up, but it still deserves a thumbs up so, *thumbs up*

Re: Garo Red Requiem Movie Released
Yeah I'm probably one of VERY FEW people who loved Red Requiem. I also had no problems with Rekka because I think she was SUPPOSED to be not liked by many. it's her character trait, and it gives her time to mature. You just cant have EVERYBODY be liked from the get go, because that would be boring.
I WANNA see character antagonism, I WANNA see complicated characters. This is probably why I'm the black sheep of the forums, I am ALWAYS neutral or positive about story plots aand characters. (<- Shunpei supporter)
Also who the hell cares about 'Thunder Thighs'? Rekka's legs were sexy looking.
