Amazons/Amazonz has become another base-breaking series. First, It's produced by Shinichiro Shirakura, the Toei producer most of the fandom Loathes due to him screwing Over Hibiki. Second, Yasuko Kobayashi was it's writer, and on top of the previously cited Rider ideology contempt listed above she at the time was in a notoriously long slump of bad writing work. Third, they were doing a rebooted Version of Kamen Rider Amazon, the fourth Rider series that was while beloved by Showa fans was screwed over back in the day by parent watch groups for it's 'graphic violence and abnormal hero' and forcibly cancelled. The last time they rebooted a classic rider show, we got two movies for Ichigo/Nigo and V3 that are near-universally hated in the fandom. Factor in the annual spring 'Taisen" movies and the events of Decade, and pretty much any Heisei-era work utilizing showa-era characters has been horrid. Fourth, Shirakura's statement in the press announcement for the show threw under the bus every kamen Rider series he didn't have a hand in, despite all of them being far more successful financially for Toei and more beloved than anything he'd ever touched; all of which only serve to further ostracise the fandom. And fifth; it was clear this was only being made to appeal to the Audience of Garo, whch has boomed as a multimedia giant aimed explicitly at adult audiences. And that's just going into the series conceptually. During it's production it was revealed Amazons took priority in resource allocation over the currently-running Kamen rider shows, Ghost for 2016 and Ex-Aid for 2017; both larger-earning series which paid toei's bills, but during the period where Amazons was in production/Filming, those shows were stripped bare until they ended. While the Ex-aid staff were able to plan for this and had been allocated less to begin with; In Ghost's case, it led to it's very rocky first half dropping into a death spiral of bad storytelling, as they had none of the resources (suits, location-shoots, etcetera) to tell the story they had been building to. Even Ghost's Final form debut was NOT spared this, as on the day of shooting...the suit wasn't even DONE, and wouldn't actually show up until two episodes after. Getting to The actual Amazons Show? Watchers often began comparing it to Ryuki (it itself, again as stated above a base-breaking series), finding it a poor knockoff of that, with the show's gore and violence elements far over-stressed for how tame it was, and often their utilization was seen as juvenile, to say nothing of the filters which made the show unpleasant to actually watch. it's protagonist was also quickly cited, similarly to Ryuki's, as being the series Real villain as his actions only facilitated people dying. Those for the show believe it a return to the mature elements the show had lost in recent years, but others further point out...that those never left.
