Looks great. I hope the medical drama and gaming wackiness keep my interest throughout the show.

I can already feel an Ex-Aid vs Jyuohger special incoming, with the Riders somehow ending up leading a Blood game session.

*braces himself for severe, sharp emotional tonal whiplashes through out* Right then, all set to give the show the benefit of a doubt.

While I am still skeptical about the suit, I am completely interested in watching Ex-Aid.The whole medical drama X Kamen Rider aspect sounds interesting.

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
The medical aspect surprised me, but maybe it's the world wrapping that'll make for a strong narrative device that the Rider series needs. I like the idea of characters with strong personalities that clash. The up front promise of actual drama appeals to me.
I had no idea until watching this trailer that there was even this medical aspect to the show. While I'm glad that it's not just "gamer Rider because games are popular", I don't know if this will exactly be as good as mixing chocolate and peanut butter together. I think it'll certainly add narrative structure, but sometimes the disparate aspects just cause the world building to come apart. Sometimes Toei seems lazy about world building and it just ends up being "quirky characters together for quirkiness sake".
The suit designs are loud, I'll say that.

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
The odd/intriguing thing for me is that despite the outright goofiness of the suits, the premise is actually pretty serious. It feels like they're really setting it up as an actual medical drama, which is a bit incongruous with the design. I dunno, I never judge a show until at least 10 episodes in, but this has me mildly optimistic.

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
Yeah, I'm just glad for this to appear to be about something. We even have a villain that with maybe motivations that we can understand.
As much as I liked Drive, the main focus of that series was that police go after criminals, which change from week to week. The main plot was great when it was going, but it always felt a bit unclear who was the mastermind and what the bad guys actually wanted.

Damn it I just thought of a bad joke.
So since Taiga is a Rider, and he lost his medical license does that make him a Mumen Rider?

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
Oh, is that what mumen means? For those of you who don't watch or read One Punch Man, there's a character in it called Mumen Rider, who's obviously a parody of Kamen Rider. He rides around on a bike (literal bicycle) and there's this great scene where the crowd is cheering him on, like a Sunday morning super hero, even though he has no chance of winning.Kogashi wrote:So since Taiga is a Rider, and he lost his medical license does that make him a Mumen Rider?
I didn't ever look it up, but mumen does mean "unlicensed".

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
First thing I thought of was Kid Vid from the old Burger King ads.
This seems like an odd premise. Doctors and gamers at the same time. Not sure how that'll mesh. It's kamen Rider though so I doubt I'll hate it.

I think so, at very least the English translation they go with is 'licenseless' Rider but I don't think Licenseless isn't an actual word.takenoko wrote:Oh, is that what mumen means? Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
Oh weird. In the manga Viz just straight up calls him Mumen Rider. Kind of ruins the joke to translate the mumen part.
