In all honesty, I'm not a fan of any of the three names. I'm not sure what they were thinking, other than that they needed a generic but genre-specific name that wasn't already taken.
Watching:
Kamen Rider Kuuga, Gotchard
Watched:
KR W, Gaim, Ghost - Build, Geats
Ultraman '66, Leo, Great, Nexus - U7X, Ginga - Blazar

First, we had Armored Riders. Now there's "Doctor Riders". Also, I'm afraid this could turn into another Ryuki with like five Riders already revealed so early. Who is to say there won't be five more Doctor Riders somewhere along the lines.

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
I wonder if the show will reference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nurse_Witch_Komugi in any way?
Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
Well, i don't know if this has actually been mentioned before, but I think that this time the suit might be aimed to adults.takenoko wrote:Well, something that struck me about this character design is that it's very cartoonish and seems to be aimed at young kids. However, this is done in a way that makes me think that he might be a character from a video game/anime in-world for the story. So it might not be representative of the tone of the real story or target audience.
You know, some time ago i was looking at the belt and started noticing how it looked like cheap plastic, but somehow i liked it, it made me feel nostalgia. then on FB someone said what was it, the colors and the cheap plastic, are a reference to the 90's culture, remember shows like "Clarissa explains it all" and such? they used those kinda colors, and the belts looks like a toy from that time.
If you ask me this gives me hopes, since the ones who gets those references are us guys who lived in the 90's, so maybe Toei is now taking more in consideration the older fans.

Oh yeah, the 90s were known for some pretty outlandish color combinations. I hated what they did with some of the Transformer repaints that they released at the time.

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
I'm curious why you would think this. It's not a Toei property for one and two, it's a magical girl parody. Also it's not as well known to people compared to Blackjack which one of the characters in Ex-Aid is definitely a homage to. So the character is a nurse but I'm not holding out for a female Nurse Rider.resop2 wrote:I wonder if the show will reference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nurse_Witch_Komugi in any way?

Well, the MOTW on both shows were viruses, and at the end of the promo for Ex-Aid they have a perky idol-ish nurse tell the riders to do their best.

Just hope he doesn't power up with Demon Souls and immediately gets killed in one shot

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
The line near the end of the promo has been itching in my head for quite a while. "Clear all the games and become a super doctor that saves all of mankind!" and by clearing I wonder if that means the doctor riders will be fighting for the other gashats that each rider possesses

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
I think the show is looking interesting now. I hate the main rider's design though. It's nothing like Kamen Rider in my opinion.
Also, not to be picky, but there's a "big" mistranslation in the Promo.
There's a line that goes:
ノコンチニュで クリアしてやるぜ
Which is mistranslated as "Use a continue. Let's clear it!" when it actually means "Let's clear it without using a continue". Totally different meaning.
In any case, good job.

Re: KR Ex-Aid pre-series thread
I've been kind of avoiding the conversation because I've seen and heard a lot more about the show and toys than most non-Japanese members of the forum and don't want to accidentally spoil anything, but I will make this little comment...
A photo was released of one Rider doing his finishing Rider Kick, arms crossed and full of attitude. Avoiding anything else, this underscores (in my mind) the promo which shows each cast member has an actual personality. I know there's a grumbling about the term "Doctor Rider", but at the same time, these are all (well, mostly) certified doctors. So just think of the "Doctor" part to simply be an acknowledgement of their title. They're obviously still using the title of Kamen Rider overall, so think of it as being a shortcut... Doctor Rider instead of Doctor Kamen Rider or Kamen Rider (so-and-so) Ph.D.
Also, from what I've seen, the virii attacking people are some sort of computer virus. This means the Doctor Driver is descriptively named, as the doctors are using the drivers to draw on digital abilities to fight the digital baddies, like antiviral programs. Suddenly, "Doctor Rider" becomes an entertaining play on "Doctor Mario". I'm betting we'll be seeing a LOT of classic game references and puns throughout this series.
Now that leaves only one major question in my mind... will the Riders be able to jump when on stairs?

It's called the Gamer Driver.

The main rider's design reminds me of The Kool-Aid Man. Kool-Aid. Ex-Aid. Hummm.
