Hmm, I do hope he does well, sadly never got to watch Yongou.

I'm not sure I like the fuzzy parts of OokamiBlue's suit, as that stuff is going to pick up a lot of dust and stuff, and as it looks like the material mascot outfitters use, it's going to take a while to clean.

Re: KyuuRanger Trailer released!
My opinion of the previews: I am not excited. This looks like a huge sausage-fest. They only have one human looking female, half as many as the Jyuohgers and they weren't even human! You would think that with nine members they would have more than two females. Is this some sort of unspoken ceiling? And, what's with the earrings on nine? Now, if they had some sort of BL angle going with 1 and 9, that might make it fun. However, an angle with 9 and the bull guy might be really awkward.

I don't know if this has ever been officially stated, but I think the general explanation is that these shows are mostly aimed at boys, so there's less effort put into female representation. Maybe it's cause our fanbase is older than the Japanese target demographic, but it seems to me like quite a lot of ladies like the toku.
Honestly though, I can't imagine these kind of writers having enough material to create characters and develop stories for three or more women. They can barely do it when there's one or two.

Re: KyuuRanger Trailer released!
Why are women always expected to relate to a male protagonist, while men never have to relate to a female protagonist? That's just one of many double standards in our (and apparently Japan's) media. I've been more or less okay with the 3:2 male to female ratio in the standard sentai team, although shows like Jyuoh where the girls didn't even get the standard sentai focus ep is pretty damn disheartening. Kyuu is already throwing a wrench into a variety of things, so I'm withholding my judgment, but the disproportionate gender ratio is sorta sketchy.

I though every episode was an Amu focus episode :p (w)
However, Sela did have an episode where she had that interaction with the lady's man/animated memory guy.

Re: KyuuRanger Trailer released!
Well now that's a whole separate matter. The FFXV team was clearly going for the sentai knock-off that lots of Japanese media likes to do, and they're not expected to know of the West's PR film reboot. RIP all those man hours of modeling, rigging, and lighting down the drain.

Re: KyuuRanger Trailer released!
I would argue the PR suits are a bit on the generic-for-2017 side of matters. Still, that's one heck of a coincidence. They may have started with Sentai in mind, but they are indeed much closer to the PR movie's "armor" style suits than the spandex of Sentai.VerusMaya II wrote:Well now that's a whole separate matter. I just thought it was a funny response since FF 15 was criticized for also being a sausage fest. Yeah, I'm generally surprised that Power Rangers (I'm guessing Sentai?) even cared enough to say anything, since the ranger trope is such a known parody at this point.

Probably for the best there isn't a white ranger this year...

To be honest so do I find the FF 15 Power Rangers suits cooler than the movie's suits.

Why wasn't it Juuouger again? Would love some consistency here.VerusMaya II wrote:Lord do I despise opening this can of worms but I did receive our first complaint on the Twitter, so here I am re-posting what I said to staff. This is not endorsed by takenoko or Lunagel, but nor did they say I'm wrong and a fucking idiot, so take this as you will:
Combine this with Lunagel's fantasic post about Para-DX vs Paradox to get the general idea of how the team decides on spelling!VerusMaya II wrote: I'm assuming for the same reason the group went with Kyouryuuger instead of Kyoryuger.
My guess: when Toei romanizes their titles, they're leaving out the ō and ū macrons which indicate a long sound. To Toei, it's Kyūranger, following modified Hepburn romanization, and later simplified to Kyuranger. For us, we appear to have settled on using traditional Hepburn romanization, expressing this particular long sound in a double vowel. You can read more on this here if you want the finer details.
Comedy answer: we felt suppressed by making it Jyuohger instead of Juuouger so we're lashing out in rebellion.

Re: KyuuRanger Trailer released!
LOL, it's more consistent to go with Jyuohger because we use Jyu as the romanization for that the Animal kanji pretty consistently. Like JyuKen Sentai, etc. It makes it easier to distinguish it from other kanji since Juu can be gun or heavy or a bunch of other stuff. It's also why Oh is a convenient spelling for King since Yu-Gi-Oh or OhRanger.
True consistency when translating is impossible. You just do what you can with the stuff you're given and people's history of the language. At this point, no one would want to read Tokyo as Toukyou. That'd be silly.
