Ultraman X
So, does anyone have any expectations from the new show? I guess they are going along the way of having cards instead of spark dolls for the new series and quite honestly I am a little tired of that gimmick. It just seems a little "commercial" having them use dolls or cards. I think his design is an interesting take on the Ultra Hero - notice the Tron-like circle on the temples.
I'm just curious if anyone else is still interested in this franchise since Crunchyroll has been picking up some seasons. Thoughts?
*And I thought this would be a good tie-in with the birthday of Tsuburaya and Google's tribute!

Re: Ultraman X
I just want another Mebius-like series, that tries to tell a real story without selling toys as Ultimate Goal Number 1. Ginga and even sort of Ultra Galaxy felt like they were trying really hard to push merchandise. So... I'm hesitant about the cards, but the jury is out til we see some episodes.

Re: Ultraman X
Agreed! I actually really liked Max and would like to have seen them do more with Zero. I have found they are doing the gimmick thing with the Sentai and Rider series as well and it is tiring seeing them swap out a little thing here or there just for the sake of selling something. I want it to have a story and actually make sense rather than a selling point. DO we know if X is going to be longer than 12 episodes?

Re: Ultraman X
Yeah it was pretty good. I worry the dolls/cards/armor gimmick might feel too Digimon after a while but we'll see, it may be a pleasant surprise how they use it. Main guy is cute enough to make watching the next handful of episodes worth it, anyway. \o/

Re: Ultraman X
I was pretty underwhelmed, but will watch a couple more episodes to see how it goes. After Mebius anything is going to seem so much weaker I will work to give it a fair chance. Like the design though.

Re: Ultraman X
I thoroughly enjoyed episode 1 and felt a little bit of nostalgia coming back. I thought they did a fantastic job with the miniatures and visuals which gave me some hope they are stepping up their CGI game. I am hesitant on the armor switching and cards thing since it is so commercial. I really don't care for it in KR or Sentai so this is probably one of the low-points of the show. But maybe they'll make it work.
Anyone else hoping to see some new monsters?

Re: Ultraman X
I'm really enjoying the way they're making X kinda like a nerd. He's good at fighting, sort of (he sure gets knocked down a lot), but can't fully comprehend how to talk to/about girls. Didn't Ultra Mother teach you anything, X!?
Also appreciate Asuna's development in episode 3. She's strong without sacrificing her femininity, a trait that's become harder and harder to find as these genres (cough comics cough) swing into the "strong badass girl who don't need no man" territory. Even better, her male coworkers supported her by chipping in for new shoes! I teared up a bit, ngl

Re: Ultraman X
Well, I've been watching it but it feels really shallow. Doesn't have much heart to me, which is sad. Even a show like KR Drive had more heart. Oh, speaking of KR, our lovely actress/stuntwoman KR Peach from Gaim is now on the show as a recurring villain. She's making everyone look bad just by her presence; fortunately some cast members from another Ultraman show also dropped in for a guest appearance and ... oh they actually made the regular cast look even worse. >_> I'm pity watching it TBH.
