I'm confused, is the top head strap not in the show?

The top head strap is on the show props as well. However it's very thin and is generally hidden as to not be visible. From the viewer's perspective, the headset only has the rear strap (helping to sell the idea that it's integrated into the bot, as it otherwise would never be able to stay on).

Hmmm, I'm not seeing it in Izu's hair so maybe it's not canon? Siesta is obviously wearing the strap, but it tends to be concealed for most modern Humagear at least.

Perhaps its because the lighting, camera angles, and the casts' hair colour easily make it blend in? I mean, apart from Izu and antagonist, we don't really get to see the all angles. It's not like Toei is recording with a 360 degree camera (which ruins everything).

I've been rewatching some scenes since seeing this and it kind of looks like they actually do, but it's hidden pretty well.

Some shots of Izu make it look like she has this braid across the top of her head where the strap would be. It gives me the impression that it is there just to be worn, but not actually meant to be there on the HumaGear.

Just got mine today, and for the price it's pretty good.

Pros -
Good detail. It has two modes, regular/berserk, and lights up accordingly blue or red
It's fairly light and has an adjustable strap so great for cosplayers, although probably your ears will start to hurt after a while since there's no padding
Starts up with the "Take off towards a dream" which is awesome
Pressing the button gives you 28(!) different lines said by Aruto/Izu, and an additional 8 said by Jin/Horobi in berserk mode
Fits both adults and children well

Cons -
Only right ear plays sounds, and the two earpieces aren't linked in any way at all, so you can have one ear blue and one red
The left ear light stays on until switched off, but the right ear turns off the light after 30 seconds of inactivity or immediately after the audio ceases after button press, so if you're taking pictures, you'd better do it within 30 seconds or be constantly turning it off and on
Turning your head side to side is fine but up and down can cause the module to slip slightly
The headband is bent to help it stay on the head better, but conversely it means it's not great for display

The fact that the module came without the sponge implies it is for the skeleton body, not with human appearance. The solution to this is glu some oval sponge on the module but I forgot where are the battery compartment or speaker were. I did watched the review from toyhappy and PAPATON Channel in youtube although not really entirely. I believe even the suit actor would have worn a sponge on his/her ears inside the suit to put that.

Speaker's on the outside but any sponge would cover the battery compartment, so you'd have to be careful

either one I pick it turns off after 30 seconds so I guess I'm a bot with a shitty battery :/
