First, check to make sure your file is complete by running it through RapidCRC or checking it with a torrent. If it's incomplete, the torrent will fill in the broken parts.

Don't use Quicktime, Realmedia, or WMP to play our files. Basically, they suck, and you're going to have a bad time.

Use VLC, Gom Player, or Media Player Classic with some codec packs installed.

Actually Deka, take what you just said, and reverse it.

I find that my PS3 has trouble playing almost all TV-Nihon files, except for the newest series, and even then, some of those don't work.

While my Xbox 360 Elite, plays them all just fine.

Hi,

Thanks for your hard work.

On the PS3 the first test.avi works fine I see the Rescue Hero guys.

The others only show up as unsupported data.

Just curious, what is the difference between the test files?

There are some older releases that have this issue, it appears to be an issue with divx not supporting some of the older versions of XVID. At first i thought it might hae to do with the audio codec we used to encode abck then, but it seems more to be a video based issue. You can get around it by using a real time encode program and streaming it from your pc, the 360 had a media update not too long ago that helps support it.

As for the new releases, they actually play just fine without having to do anythign o them, the only issue that may come up for people who don't have an LCD tv is that you're going to be losing some of the picture off to the sides.

Sounds like the Xbox is no problem.

Sounds like we're getting a lot of conflicting reports on the ps3 though.

Kevn, which system did you do your test on if you don't mind me asking?

There's really no conflicting report. Dekahero made a generalized (though not correct) statement, but never stated anything about testing the individual episodes. The current method we've been encoding for episodes has been fine for ps3 and 360.

Same as derekwc

My PS3 could play test.avi, but all the others showed as "unsupported" and refused to play.

I think I already said this a long while ago but all of TVN releases will work on the 360, Best if you use a USB thumb but I prefer using Tversity to stream them on the 360.
Just for a ref it can play AVI files of:
DivX 5 and up
all WMV
Xvid
MP4
etc etc.
although I do have trouble sometimes with some other videos [Wagaya I had to play off a thumb drive because there were issues streaming it with Tversity, it can't play H.264 unless its from WMV HD, etc etc.]
PS3 WILL ONLY PLAY MP4

Edit:

Very true, at lest with non-widescreen releases and older ones, and this is why i have a VGA cable for my 360 to hook up to my old CRT moniter and speakers [with the RCA to Speaker converter combined with a male-male adepter] up in my room |D, better picture and no overscan

Just for info, all the files work great on the Mac with QuickTime 7.5.5, VLC 0.9.5 and DivX Player 2.1

There's really not much more to say, they all worked on a 360, the first one worked on a ps3, as previously reported. that's not going to be changing from system to system.
