First, check to make sure your file is complete by running it through RapidCRC or checking it with a torrent. If it's incomplete, the torrent will fill in the broken parts.

Don't use Quicktime, Realmedia, or WMP to play our files. Basically, they suck, and you're going to have a bad time.

Use VLC, Gom Player, or Media Player Classic with some codec packs installed.

I use, and love my KM player. I have not found a video file it does not play, it also plays music, and of course DVDs and not that large of a file hogging up space. The only down sides to the KM player is remembering what keys on the keyboard ajust what, but it's great while using the KM player I don't have to reach for the mouse of the keyboard is nearer. The second down side is you might have to reload an episode if java pops up and asks to be updated. >< it has a tendicy to squish the file on top the player.

Oh and a thing I really love about the KM Player is you can adjust volume if you have a scroll option. Makes ajusting the volume very simple, and it remebers what you set it at.

I like GOM player best http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html

Start up a video, fast forward or go back with arrow keys. Volume up or down also arrow keys. Tons of useful shortcut keys and plays most things. I keep VLC as a backup player

ShadowX7 thank you for bringing up the player thing because before this I did not know the KM player was capable of playing multiple videos at once. Also a few other functions I may have missed in teh years I had it. ><

GOM and MPC-HC for me

For the Blu-Ray issue mentioned, this is likely to be down to WMP being a bit rubbish at down-mixing 5.1 to 2.0 (i would assume you have 2.0 since you mentioned the soft sound), I run them on me PS3 linked to me amp and it comes out amazingly well

Oh, if you're talking about the SD version, for some reason 5.1 downmixed to stereo makes the audio really soft. I've noticed this in stuff like the Sazer-X movie and the Gosei/W movies. Not really sure what's going on there

Okay, so I tried GOM, but the video always pause for a bit every time I try skipping forward or backward (didn't have this problem on WMP)
Tried KMPlayer, the sound is certainly louder while using this video player, which solves my low sound problem when playing Blu-Ray videos :D

I think I'll start using KMPlayer for now on :P

Read what the KM player can do so you can get full enjoyment. Fixing squashed videos is awesome like some of the early KR vids (forget which series) because you can go with storage or Display. Display being the ones that easly fixed those KR eps. And if you ever get overly bright episodes to the controls are so wonderful for fixing those too. This too means that it is a multi regional player so you don't have to worry about a DVD not playing.

Plus if you ever end up with a video with the subtitles seprate (hate that) the KM player makes it easy to join the two with option to save it.

Also mentioned before, it's also an auto player only way I can play the m4a files my friend gave me with having to waste time to convert them.

In a nut shell, KM Player= All in one idiot proof player.

WMP, Quicktime, and VLC. VLC is only because some groups prefer MKV.

I've been using VLC for quite a few years now. It's fast, easy to use and plays everything that you throw at it. It's all that I need :)
