Because having more riders than a Sentai team can be good.

Grandmother Said This. Translations Error?

Post by kiyominai »

I was watching an episode of Kabuto and noticed that, in the episode where Tendou foils a Bank Robbery he says:
Grandmother Once Said. "There are no bad restaurants or bad experiments in this world."
Although it doesn't fall into context with the bank robbery does it? I'm still studying Japanese and maybe would someday like to be a fansubber for Tv-Nihon but for practice I watched the episode in raw and I think this is what he said.
「おばあちゃんが言っていた。この世にまずい飯屋と、悪の栄えたためしはない」
Grandmother once said. There are no bad restaurants or evil that prospers in this world.

Or atleast that's what I think it says. I'm not really sure what ためし means. Can anybody help?

Well, aku no would be the describing phrase in this sentence, evil/bad.
悪の栄えたためしはない」

悪 evil

栄えた past tense of haeru 栄える 【はえる】 (v1) to shine, to look attractive, to look pretty, (P)

試し 【ためし】 (n) trial, test, (P)

and wa nai

Not knowing what a word means can change the meaning of a sentence

I see; thanks Takenoko. I only knew 'tameshi' as habit or custom; I knew there were other meanings for it though I just didn't know.
