I think this thread already covers this ground, but...
I really liked it. It was one of my first real Sentai experiences, (like the 2nd or 3rd I watched), one of the first Sentai I translated to completion, and TN's first complete Sentai series.
It had great characters, both the women were great, the music was great, the mecha was great, I liked the extra rangers, they were great. My DekaLicense is on the shelf right over my computer desk and I own DekaRobo, its bike, and DekaWing Robo. Overall I think it was a great mix of drama and comedy.

Re: What do you think of Dekaranger
Dekaranger was not just my first Sentai it was my first toku too, and in fact the first show I ever watched in Japanese.
As a result I'm hugely biased, since it'll always have a special place in my heart no matter what else I watch, but I loved it. The cast really just worked perfectly for me, especially the Ban/Hoji and Jasmine/Umeko partnerships. Plus the format was so unique, the fact that the monsters were all individual criminals (or even innocent) meant there was a versatility to the show and left it free to play around with detective/film noir conventions.
Shinkenger is currently giving it a run for its money, but right now Dekaranger is my favourite Sentai.

Re: What do you think of Dekaranger
This was my first Sentai. I used to ignore it while I browsed the net, but then I decided to watch a few episodes. My first impression was, "This is better than SPD", so I watched to the end and was enthralled.

This was my first series as well. I have watched it thrice till now lol.
The story line was good. The action was awesome. The characters were good together as they were on their own. Tetsu is my fav ranger so far <3
Emergency! Love it!!

I won't lie, but I liked it mainly because of Ayumi Kinoshita (Dekayellow). She's rather easy on the eyes.

I'm surprised anyone can look at her without hearing a loud "JASMINE IS AN ESPER...."Masked Rider wrote:I won't lie, but I liked it mainly because of Ayumi Kinoshita (Dekayellow). She's rather easy on the eyes.
I liked dekaranger, though it really doesn't blend comedy and drama so much as jump spastically from one to the other. I guess that's why it has both the goofiest and least goofiest moments I've seen in sentai. Red's voice and hair notwithstanding, though, the rangers are all very likeable. The writing was generally good, the music was catchy, the cinematography was brilliant even for the robot fights. And Sen had the best thinking pose ever.
Spoiler
The hero's eventually going to win. But at what cost? Also,

Haha, one of my favorite moments was "Umeko is not an ESPer. So when she touches him, she senses nothing."jolly_old_saint wrote: I'm surprised anyone can look at her without hearing a loud "JASMINE IS AN ESPER...."
I liked the episodic characteristic of this series and the fact that the main villain was always in hiding, sending criminal after criminal to wreak havoc on the region. It fit the series theme well. I loved the music; it's the only Sentai show (so far) where I just sat through the OP and ED on nearly every episode and even sang along with at times.
The characterization was pretty good as well. I particularly like the Hoji episodes for some reason; it was probably "Hard Boiled License" (Episode 37) that really got to me since that was pretty much a touching episode with nice music and a sad ending (I always think Hoji's getting screwed over with bad luck since they killed his best friend who turned evil, and now he loses the love of his life for justice). Everyone got their piece of characterization throughout the series, and I enjoyed the blend of drama and comedy present.
Whenever I think of this series, I think of "badass." The mecha were great, and I absolutely loved the roll call. It was like hearing the rangers saying, "One! I will... kick your ass! Two! I will... also kick your ass!" and so on. You can imagine how I felt when I saw the increased intensity of that roll call during the Dekaranger movie. If I wanted to be part of a roll call for a Sentai team, it would be this one. And I think DekaMaster is a great example of "badass," just behind AbareKiller. The voice of DekaMaster during his roll call has me thinking, "IT'S OVER 9000!!!" every time.
I got annoyed of the narrator at times since he basically speaks in like every episode, but I suppose there's no way out of it since there would be awkward silences when Sen does his thinking pose or Jasmine does her ESPer rituals.
So yeah... Dekaranger = badass for me.
