Sweet!! Was going to start reworking on getting DekaRanger DVD's (one of my favorites). I'll hold off for now until the Blu-Rays come out.

You guys at TV-Nihon must hate new release news like this. I say you get your first request to sub these Blu-Rays by 9 AM tomorrow :D

Here's some technical info I found by translating the web page on Toei Video.

BSTD09543 / 19,800 yen + tax / COLOR / main part 445 minutes (planned) / 2-layer 3-Disc / Linear PCM (stereo) / 16: 9 [1080p Hi-Def] / 18 episodes

※ With the exception of some video, it is up-converted to the SD material to the original ones that made the latest HD of work.

So much for a Star Trek TNG style restoration. Still excited as there be at least some improvement :)

Just found a copy of the YouTube announcement takenoko was mentioning (was all JP, but didn't care). Seeing some of the cast from now and then a couple look a little different from before and always interesting to see how they change. Though a 10 years later movie might be a nice idea :) ~~ Any way to get Ayumi in another movie :p

Not bad. That comes out to what 4.5 DVD's put onto the BluRay? If they come out with 18 on the next two then that'll put it at a 3 Volumes (9 Discs) for ~$500 and the DVD set about $580. So a better deal just by using what info is available to us. Though looking at Amazon links I found says 21,384 Yen (~179) so roughly $14 more than Toei's site. Granted I know Amazon.jp isn't going to be the cheapest, but was one someone was linking.

Looks like release dates are:

Set 1: August 5th
Set 2: October 7th
Set 3: December 2nd

Now I just need to figure out some way to use my Amazon Prime Shopping (US) with JP or see if there's another site cheaper still even with shipping included.

This is sweet. Are they going to have special features like interviews with the cast?

We released a subbed version of the trailer. It's also on my blog, assuming it hasn't been pulled.

There'll be new cast talks for the Blu-ray.

Not surprised that it'll just be an upscale, it is Toei after all.

Staff's totally pumped about working on Deka again. At least 4-5 people have talked about working on it, so that's always a good sign.

Well, if you need any help at all feel free to let me know (Here or on IRC). I can help with practically anything but translating (I suck at it). Thought about at one point retouching up the old TV rips onto the DVD ones and typeset them up and fix any noticeable errors for personal copies, but I'll hold off on that especially with BluRay coming out.

Blue Rays of any of these older 200 shows are always welcome.

I really wish toei would properly remaster this. This isn't like Kamen Rider Faiz and Blade. This was shot on film. Upscale the effects shots. But do the rest properly. But they love to do it the cheap way. Even though they're still making people pay $600.

I always wonder, how do you guys know whether something is shot on film or not?

I dunno, KR Black got a really good transfer so Toei can do it when the stars align.

How I've heard it was:
Gao-Magi were shot on film, but they had all the post processing done on SD video.
