DHT, Local Peer Discovery, Peer Exchange NOT ALLOWED?

Post by divineforge »

Somehow, since the Kamen Rider W Episode 7, I noticed that for the DHT, Local Peer Discovery, and Peer Exchange are NOT allowed. Does that mean some recent changes happened to the torrents?

Read from internet, found something like Private Torrent, that would not allowed the DHT, Local Peer Discovery, Peer Exchange .

Current Spec,
-------------------
Win XP Sp3,
utorrent
av - avast , (checked, nothing related to firewall /av program., since other torrent works ok)

* Downloading other torrents have no problem.

Any other people having this issue? Formerly download could reach ~100Kbps easily with all these above working...
thanks. Search some other post.. it seems like something about japan isp blocking something (but seems like older post? any related? (I didn't have problem that time... just recently...). thanks.

yes DHT support has been removed from the torrents for security reasons, it stops unwanted connections getting to you, this is in light of recent DMCA reports

With the DHT and Peer Exchange disabled I'm quite literally back to the speeds I got on dialup. There has to be some alternative to shutting it off altogether, since that seems very much to mean a drop from 300KBps down to 3KBps.

that would suggest you are failing to connect to tracker properly,

you may need to set up port forwarding

No, I know my ports are correctly forwarded. I've checked them. uTorrent has checked them. We both agree that there's not a local problem. Besides, torrents from other places that don't disable DHT are working how they always have.

Are you sure you don't have our tracker blocked for whatever reason?

No, it seems like a natural thing to ask when looking at your problem?

When you're downloading from other trackers, are you only getting peers through DHT and Peer Exchange (ie: not through the actual tracker)? It really sounds like there's something wrong on your end.

No, I do get seeds/peers via the trackers in any case where there are some reported, as well as getting via DHT, etc. Obviously I'm receiving from peers via your tracker or else I'd be getting nothing. But it's at a markedly reduced rate compared to when DHT is available.

From all my experience with torrents everything on my end is correct, a conclusion that seems supported by my having no issues with any tracker other than this one.

Okay, so bear with me. This is really just interesting to me at this point:

If you go to another tracker that works fine for you, and manually turn off DHT and Peer Exchange on your end, does your download go okay?

Also, incidentally, what's your upload speed capped at?

Okay. At this moment I'm running a torrent. I just turned off DHT and Peer Exchange and ...give it a minute... well, right at this moment it's cut by about half. Not quite as drastic as how W was going today, but it supports the "DHT make go fast!" pattern. I leave the upload cap off unless I'm actually trying to upload something else at that moment.

if you run with the upload cap off you do affect the download line, its best to always cap your upload line speed at 90% of its capacity

In my case, i have the upload line speed capped to very low. Based on the observation of KR W Ep8 download it seems that it's a bit slower than usual (only 50% of usual download rate). Still can't fully blame that it's because of the DHT/ Local Peer Discovery / Peer Exchange yet..

As KR W Ep 7 downloads still reaching up to 90% + of my download rate, (without DHT / LPE / PE). just that it takes a longer time to surge up the optimum download speed from the beginning.

So ... I'll still to observe it, about recent slower download on this Ep 8 .. might be a temporary connection issue? hmmm... that means from now onwards Tv-nihon will be releasing Private torrent? Let's see how it goes then.. (for security sake, it sounds good also.. but didn't affect me much & also not knowing much about it.. )

Could I ask was it really since KR W Ep 7 release it has been private torrent? or already in earlier release?

I feel like 7 already had the private torrent option turned on

With DHT turned off, all those people that you would have connected to normally through that means will no longer work, so obviously you'd have lost speeds on that front. I don't know why going through the tracker would connect less people to each other though
