I've really started to watch all the toku shows I can get my hands on of late. I still really prefer super sentai over a good deal of them (probably because of the formula and how it was my first going) but otherwise I've really been branching out. My very first pure sentai series was Magiranger, with DaiRanger pulling in second place. I've just started watching my first KR series, Wizard, and so far I like it. I'm curious as to if the other ones are much the same? Sort of...kiddish? I'd watched GranSazer and Sazer X long before this time too, not to mention the pretty funny PGSM and all the GARO that's been out until now.

I'm willing to give all toku the benefit of the doubt but it seems like my tastes run more towards sentai than anything else.

I'm a fan of diversity, and I love watching all sorts of wacky stuff.

I mainly watch Kamen Rider and other toku. I find Super Sentai to be more childish and silly which really pulls me out of the show and just makes me not want to watch it. I also prefer the loner to a team, what Super Sentai have to do or just plain do as a team Kamen Riders usually do by themselves. I've seen all of Gokaiger and Gobusters though, they are the only two Sentai seasons I could actually get into and I like them quite a bit. The other toku shows I've seen are all of the Garo series so far (this includes Yami because I'm all caught up) and RyuKenDo.

Unless it's a crossover special like super hero taisen, I'm mostly into Super Sentai due to growing up with Power Rangers. I have nothing against Kamen Rider or Metal Heroes however.

Maybe it'd help if I explained my expectations going into this. I made this poll after seeing the numbers on the tracker. Wizard and Garo had about even downloads, while Kyouryuu had a lot.

I figured that was because a lot of people came from the Power Rangers fandom, and trickled into Kamen Rider, and then into other types of toku.

So it's a little surprising to see that most people who answered watch all kinds of shows. Maybe it's because people who participate on the forums are a lot more hardcore, and not actually a good representation of the fandom as a whole?

I'm a little surprised to see more Rider fans than Sentai fans though. That totally went against my expectations.

I usually look into each series eventually, but Kamen Riders are the ones I look forward to the most. Mainly that is because I loved Faiz, Kabuto, and especially Den-O. I'm hoping for a new series to catch that lightning in a bottle again.

For me I started off with Kamen Rider since I saw Dragon Knight on tv (I know it was a bad way to start off the Kamen Rider series) then I started to get bored with Kamen Rider so I started to watch Gokaiger and now I watch super sentai. I just started with Garo (first season) because it seemed interesting.

I'm a huge Rider fan (the only one I've ever outright completely disliked was Hibiki [but that wasn't really Rider, so whatever]), but Garo is pretty cool when I'm in the mood for the mature stuff. As for Sentai, well, I'll watch one when a Rider show gives me enough reason to do so (lol), but I can't really bring myself to get that into it, and it takes me forever to finish a series that's already complete due to a short attention span when dealing with them. That having been said, I will generally try the first episode of a brand new Sentai series when it starts and that alone is generally enough to make me not want anything to do with that series.

I'd say that's probably a very good assumption. Most casual fans who just entered through the Power Rangers gateway (which I am not one of, although I did watch Power Rangers way back in the day, it has nothing to do with why I got into toku more recently [in fact, it might even be part of the reason why I can't get into Sentai]) likely just grab the files and watch them without really caring to enter the fandom social community.

Mostly a Kamen Rider fan, enjoy some Sentai too though not usually as much. Akibaranger if we're not counting it as Sentai because it's not official. Have watch Garo season one and have the movies and season two ready watch when I have more time.

I watch anything and everything not related to Sentai and Rider. When Gaven came out I was like a kid in a candy store. I'm an Ultraman Enthusiast and everybody knows that.

I think there's a lot to be said for not going on the forums straight after watching them. I watch things, I think ''That's good'' then I look at the forums and admittedly some of the time it's fine but some days there'll be an opinion I disagree with and I think ''Why do I even need to know what other people think of it?''

I came to toku through Power Rangers, like I think the majority of people from the US/Canada would have. I became truly aware of Sentai during Power Rangers in Space, when I started finding pictures of a Megazord which hadn't appeared yet and it made me realize "holy shit, Japan did this last year, this is old stuff we're getting!" and made me seek out what was airing currently. Then I became obsessed with the themesongs to all the shows and listened to them over and over. I didn't get to actually watch any Sentai until I downloaded the first 18 episodes of Abaranger (unsubbed!) and tried to make sense of it. It's surprising how much you can divine from unintelligible acting.

But at that same time, I downloaded an episode or two of this other thing. It was awesome. Dark and troubled, and everyone was shouting and fighting. There was drama and pathos and a laundry service, everything I wanted to see in a foreign kid's show. That's when I became a Kamen Rider fan. In college, I found my way here via Den-O uploads on youtube, and I've watched various things done by the group. Akiba@DEEP was great and I've watched it a few times since, meanwhile Sh15uya I could barely make it through an episode of.

I'm a Kamen Rider guy at heart. I don't miss a series, even the ones which aren't that great, like Wizard or Decade. I skipped Goseiger entirely because the first episode was so pitiful, and I don't consider it any great loss. Sentai just isn't that awesome, even the badass seasons like Shinkenger or Boukenger. I think Go-Busters is the only one I've been genuinely upset at delays over.

I'm also very faithful to this group's subs. I find it really hard to watch other groups for anything, because for as much as people on the other forum I frequent bitch and whine about "those shitty TV-Nihon subs" (they leave in honourifics, wahhh), they're the highest quality out there. I'm trying to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion and the subs are just so poor, my incredibly poor japanese lets me hear the actors saying things which are not exactly what's coming up on screen and it annoys me. I can tell when someone's saying a giant paragraph and the sub just has three words, guys. What was even worse, though? Whoever did these translated the english words into japanese, which is just mind-boggling.

I know exactly what you mean. Some conversations are, um, less than grand. I think it's because a lot of people just don't read the thread before posting, so there's a bit of white noise. But there's still some good conversations here and there.

well, doctor who, arrow, star trek(and yes, from the point of view of japan, this are tokustatsu shows :p)
now seriously, i watch any show that has action in it and a story(altough i feel KR should try better with their stories)

Sentai I watch because Power Rangers got me into the whole thing. It depends though, a series I enjoy I will watch weekly, one I'm kind of bored of and not liking I force myself to watch.

Will give anything a go though. Have watched the Rescue Series and RyuKenDo, and absolutely love GARO.

My favorite to watch is usually Sentai, and then Kamen Rider after that. To be honest, though, I haven't seen any of the other stuff like Garo, Ultraman, and whatnot. I plan on watching it in the future, but I just haven't gotten around to it quite yet.
