Video recording of TOQ 33's translation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Em1PtGy ... iKdvmVuPpz
I don't know if this is interesting to anyone, but I made a video of myself translating toq last week. The video is a little over 90 minutes long, so I guess that's about how long it takes me to translate an episode? (It's the middle of the night, so I don't really watch the clock)

What was deal with the Japanese subtitles that were already there? Do your RAWs come pre-subbed in Kanji/Katakana (I can't tell the difference), or did you do that beforehand?

Re: Video recording of TOQ 33's translation
We have a device for capturing the TV streams. The Japanese is just the caption files from that stream.
I post them to our wiki so if you ever want to see how they compare, it's available:

Not all Japanese shows are captioned though. For stuff like Garo, I translate it by ear.

And I figure that it's not quite as simple as just rewriting the captions into English, is it?

Re: Video recording of TOQ 33's translation
Sorta. It just depends on how easy it is to find an English phrase that captures all of the ideas present in the original Japanese. If it's conversation, sure, it's pretty simple since it's just people talking. But I'm sure there are times where you see me consult a dictionary or something or look something up too.HarryFA1 wrote:And I figure that it's not quite as simple as just rewriting the captions into English, is it?

Captions aren't perfect though as we found out the hard way with Gaim. There were a couple of times where the captions were wrong for belt sound offs.

Could you post the ToQger movie because we won't get a normal episode this week?

No because the movie wasn't even released in DVD/Blu-Ray. They can't release something they don't have.

That looks like a lot of work per episode. Thanks for doing it! What software do you use for subtitling and all that technical stuff? Looking to learn it to attempt to fix some timing issues on subtitles for a show I watch.
