Candy Toys Wearing Black: Engine Daishogun & GekiRinTouja

Got my Engine Daishogun together and painted, and it inspired me to finish GekiRinTouja.

You know, if *I* were a power-obsessed Akugata lord and I found out *my* Rinbeast was pretty much just a powerup for my archenemies, I'd be kinda pissed off.


GekiRinTouja Black. Alas, I wasn't as thorough with the spraypaint as I thought, but on the plus side, you really can only see those bits of color when you're taking photos and the flash goes off.

Whether they use Bushido or Kung Fu, good guys wear black.

Now, before you start with the inevitable chorus of "why can't Bandai make the DX robos this flexible" (and hey, I'm generally right there with you), know that it comes with a price. As I was posing Gekitouja for these pictures, his left hip joint cracked, and then as I was taking him apart, the other one went, and now the poor guy needs double hip replacement surgery. I'm going to see how epoxy does at putting him back together...

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but its as related as I could find without creating a new thread.

I've become a sentai robot candy toy addict.. I love them. I also paint them so they resemble the DX versions. I've completed Geki Touja & Geki Fire so far and I think I want to do Daigoyou next. I just love the guy.

But here's my problem.

Daigoyou is a clear red lantern. I don't know if any of you are avid painters, but I was wondering whats the best way to achieve this. I achieved a the clear orange parts on Geki but first putting down a coat of yellow then a coat of clear orange. It doesnt look too bad.

Daigoyou is completely molded in dark blue plastic. I was thinking a coat of flat red, then flat yellow, then gloss clear red, then a coat of gloss clear. Thoughts?

Maybe paint it white first, that way the dark blue won't mix with the lighter colors you put on top of it?

Yeah I thought of that too.. like an undercoat.. Thanks
