Forum Index. Same with my bro.

I still think keeping it as the index will make the board seem more open to people who are unregistered and encourage them to register because they can more easily see what the forums have to offer. Its more useful when you're looking for specific information and also when you only check like 3 forums. This is especially true when say you have 100 new posts since your last visit and only 2 or so in the forums you care about.

I think that people who visit are only interested in the latest posts, since most are revisiting people, not first timers. I don't want to scroll through all the forums to see what's new, I want to see what threads people are talking in

you are free to click the "View new posts" link when you visit the forums if you don't want to scroll

Either way.

I'm mostly visiting DDL section, so whenever I want to go there I just start typing "direct..." on the url bar and it finds the address and I access it directly.

I like both, how about a section on the board index page that lists the 10 most recent posts, os you can see what is happening fast.
