A Kickstarter for a Super Sentai Game?!?

Check this out: it's a Super Sentai (not PR, but Sentai) game where you play as a bunch of Stuntmen tired of a Toei-esque company taking advantage of them, so they go off and open their own Sentai studio where they'll shoot their own indie series.

You fundraise and manage the studio, buy the props to make the show, and teach the actors new skills. Then, while shooting, the actors begin to confuse it for real fighting scenarios, and you play a turn-based RPG with it.

It looks like it'll be a strong game, and tries to stay faithful to the source material as best it can while allowing for a wide audience. I'm looking forward to it, and I figure you and the rest of the community will too.

Also, to note: It's the same company who developed the very successful 'Knights of Pen and Paper'. They're both very meta games, and give plenty of nods to their respective fandoms. Check it out, and see if it's worth sharing.

I mean, look at the perks: Totally worth it. I went for the $50 one myself, so I could get the armored Sentai suit options too. I'm hoping they have Sixths as options as well.

Always against about fundraisers, because most of the project you gain nothing, but this project has a lot of content for the donors. This is really really nice.

Yes, please help these guys spread like wildfire! Even outside of our fandom, this is a great game concept that I'm sure can hit the mainstream. I mean, did you see the Spongebob-inspired MotW?

And they're giving plenty of stuff away on this Kickstarter for very fair pledge amounts, which is nice by comparison of other things I've seen on there. I also got a tease from talking to Saulo, the CEO/Founder, who tells me that the groupings will be 1/3/5/6 for team-builds, and that he couldn't "confirm" the possibility of a single-player Rider/Ultraman-esque mode of gameplay right now but seemed to hint at the possibility being there, so that speaks miles of want for me towards this game. Does that tickle anyone else's fancy?

I skipped past this when I read about it before this thread thinking it was just a manager game with no RPG elements at all. Then I realized these were the guys who made Knights of Pen and Paper, and I thoroughly enjoyed that game. Hoping for that single hero mode to be confirmed though. (and custom costume design sprites please)

From what I've been reading between posts on the Kickstarter and Kotaku is that 1-man teams are basically 90% confirmed, though the thing I think they're trting to hold off on sharing is the Rider possibility. And I did ask about customization of sprites in a PM with Saulo (the CEO), and he said that as this isn't a sandbox/maker-type game, we won't see those elements but reassured me that there will be plenty of costume options to work with.



Why don't I pose another question though: What elements will everyone be excited to play with once the game comes out? Team creation? Leveling? Building the studio a certain way?

@80K - Rider extra episodes will be included and released
and @110K - Episode Editor, where you can record your episode, edit dialogue, and all around have your own way with the game.

Now tell me, how can you pass up on goals like that?

The one thing I wish is that they let you design the outfits. It seems like they are just doing generic Sentai with generic powers. It would be nice to see themed sentai with different skill trees representing the different themes.

I know Kuchiri, that would be nice, but considering it's the first game of its kind (to star Sentai and possibly Riders) they can't put everything we want in for the first run through. If you look at the updates actually, they have a short video showcasing a number of colors for the suits at least. The color editor isn't finalized yet, but the number of colors is greater than that of the few we normally see in the shows, giving us more customization there.

I'm sure that, with everyone's support both in bolstering the team and in using proper currency, they can succeed enough that in time you might find they will offer a bit more customization. When we first played games like Tony Hawk Pro Skater or something else with a character creator, we didn't have many options to choose from at first. But over time, as money and tech allowed, they were able to expand the feature.

For what little money they've asked to support the project to help create a viable final product, I think we can live until an update a year or two after it's release, where they'll probably offer new skins or something.

What kind of themes did you have in mind?

ALL the themes! Goranger-Kyouryuger! Not a theme for every team. Something like..... Car Themed, Plane Themed, Dino Themed, Ninja Themed, Samurai Themed, Magic Themed. You know.

Well, we've got less than a week before it's finished. We;re less than $4000 away from Rider episodes in the game, and a much more distant amount from the Episode Editor, which is a shame. If we hit that $110K mark, I'd be all too ecstatic.

If anyone sees this, we have until 12:49 EDT on August 21 to hit either of these stretch goals! If you haven't offered support yet, do so and reap the benefits of this. Like I said, $50 is getting me a whole lot, but just doing $15 gets you the game anyways. Here's to what will most certainly be a wonderful game on which to waste our lives away.

Slightly reviving this thread because there's new news involving Chroma Squad...

The release of this game is being held up by Saban, because they feel that Chroma Squad is so similar to Power Rangers that either the developers should pay them royalties or the game should never come out... And wanting the game to come out at all the developers are working with Saban to figure out how much to pay them in royalties, IE what percentages and the like... So, yea :/
