NieR Automata

Post by takenoko »

It's amazing. There's some rough spots gameplay wise, but if you played the first one, you can tell this sequel is much more playable.

But you must check it out for the great ideas that it has going into the story and the characters.

Just got Ending E, and I think it's a beautiful metaphor. I didn't choose to help the weak at this time, but I will probably in the future:

Yeah. This game is wwwaaaay better than anything in the Drakengard/Nier franchise.
Ending E reaally put me in my feelings. Made me glad to have everyone helping me out and the music was perfect. The questions they kept asking about "is it pointless?" "do you enjoy games?" etc. everything just seem to come together pretty well for the Ending. It left me feeling pretty empty though. Like I wanna chase those feelings I felt when trying to save the Androids.

Well, I thought that I was actively killing other player's data when they died, since you get the message "player's data loss" every time one of them is killed. I kept apologizing for it as I played.

I was watching the dinner interview which features 2B, 9S, Pascal, and Pod 042's voice actors.

Someone asked about the meaning behind the pod's numbers. Interestingly, they said 042 comes from a book where 42 is the ultimate number, instead of "the meaning of life". I wonder if that's just a translation thing.

153 is apparently the number of species of fish? I hadn't heard that before.

I don't remember a pod 006, but apparently that comes from God creating the world in 6 days and taking a break on the 7th. Since androids don't rest, the number only goes up to 6.

Oh, and I remember one of the Wavepoint guys in their Nier spoiler cast mentioned that 9S's line "Everyone calls me Nines" as being suspicious. Since he doesn't work with anyone else.
Spoiler
Hinting that 2B was the one who called him Nines in a previous life, but he just doesn't remember.

Assuming they're talking about Hitchhiker's Guide (which I think we can assume they are), the original English is 42 is the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

The Japanese translation is: 「生命、宇宙、そして万物についての究極の疑問の答え」 pretty much a direct translation, so I'm gonna assume either they were just being liberal with the meaning or maybe they were taking it from somewhere else that was referencing HHG

In the interview, they refer to it as the "kyuukyoku no kazu". /me shrugs

Also, don't read this thread! Play the game first!
