Re: Beat'em up games
I stand corrected, I know none of those games.Saejima Kouga wrote:BZZZZZZZT! WRONG!Drago11 wrote:A beat 'em up game is something like Street Fighter, where you're squared off against one opponent and you have to defeat them to move on. Think arcade fighting games.
Beat 'em Ups are games like Final Fight, Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle, Golden Axe, Sailor Moon (Gens), Sailor Moon [R included] SNES, Power Rangers (SNES), Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers the Movie (Gens & SNES), etc etc.

Then explain the Subspace Emissary parts where you have to do exactly that, You're moving through, then you can't move on, you're on a platform or something and have to take out the enemies, then move on, I don't know what videos you've seen but when you actually get it, try and and I'll guarentie (Spelling?) there will be many levels akin to Beat 'em ups.Drago11 wrote:SSE is an adventure game, akin to SMB or something like that. I may not have the game yet, but I've seen more than enough videos of SSE in action to know how it works. Re: Beat'em up games
You want me to explain those? Piece of cake! Boss fights. Maybe you've heard of them, most games have them. Not the same as a beat 'em up. See the post I quoted above yours for examples. I've seen a guy playing through the entire first half of SSE, don't try and tell me what it is and isn't.

Re: Beat'em up games
I'll tell you something about boss fights, during Boss Fights, Theres only one of them thats different from the enemies in the level, Different from swarms of the same kinds of enemies you've been facing through the whole level.

Re: Beat'em up games
*Sigh* Why do you refuse to believe that SSE is an Adventure Game (hence it's the "Adventure Mode") and not a beat 'em up?

What does it matter? There's no sense in continuing this argument another page. @_@
Just agree to disagree and be done with it already.

Re: Beat'em up games
Gladly.
So, from what I'm observing, the vast majority of these games are on older systems. Does that mean they're a lost/dying art?

It even says "Super Smash Bros. Brawl's "Subspace Emmisary" mode is an example of a modern beat 'em up." =P

Re: Beat'em up games
Wiki can bite me, it's an adventure game that has aspects of beat 'em ups. Course, that's the 'problem' (some say) with games nowadays, it's no longer good enough to be just one genre. Everything has to have some kind of mix. FPS RPGs, Fighting Adventure games, Fighting game with RPG elements. It's just gotten more difficult to tell exactly what some games are anymore, for better or worse(how would that be worse?)Saejima Kouga wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_'em_up

And here I was going to throw Draglade into the mix. I think that I'd better just step away slowly.
