Re: Wangan Midnight The Movie
Only briefly know a bit about Wangan Midnight's manga but i fairly enjoyed this movie. Having a more character driven focus actually wasn't too bad. Its a shame Reina didn't get to race but overall i think the cast performed fair enough. And it was nice to see the various cameo's etc.
Its amazing how many times they keep repairing S30 after all those beatings, and getting blown up. Looking forward to another film if they make it.

I finally sat down and watch it. Having no knowledge of the manga, I enjoyed this movie.
I was surprise that he repaired the Z in the end. I thought it was wreaked beyond repair, with the fire and all.

Re: Wangan Midnight The Movie
If I remember correctly, Initial T was a parody manga that used trains instead of cars. I never read it, but read stuff about it.takenoko wrote:Off topic, but I liked the Chinese Initial D movie (wasn't it Initial T?). I thought it was funny to see some of the characters combined into one person ("lol, I have one loser friend instead of two. Go me") The take on the dad being an alcoholic, borderline abusive asshole was interesting too. Definitely doesn't hold a candle to the anime, but it was an interesting take on it

My copy had it labeled Initial T. I just assumed they changed it in China or Taiwan where they made it
Re: Wangan Midnight The Movie
Hey. At first I wanna apologize for my bad english and for bumping an old thread.
It's really nice I could find this movie in a so nice quality. Thanks for this release.
But I have a little problem. There is a nondisconnectable english subs in the movie. I've made the subs on my language, but it's produced a conflict with eng subs.
Can I ask you to add version where I will be able to switch the subs? Or it will me great if you will tell me the source of the file this or better quality.
Thanks.

Never heard of this movie but I immediately recognized the guy all the way to the right of the poster as the Blue Ranger from Kanpai Senshi After V.

Re: Wangan Midnight The Movie
There are some changes from the anime/manga, but they make sense for the most part.
Like how Akio started with a Z32 instead of a Z31. A kid driving a Z31 around in the early 90s (when the manga started) wasn't anything out of the ordinary because an older one in good shape could be had fairly cheaply, but by 2009 (when the film was released) they were classics in their own right. The Z32 was sold in Japan until 2000, and can still keep up with newer cars, so it's a bit more believable.
In that same vein, I actually would have liked them to use a newer Z instead of the S30, something that could believably compete with the modern cars seen in this film. Or at least, it would have made more sense to put a newer engine in it. RB-series (Skyline engine) swaps are popular these days, I was almost expecting them to use that as the "Devil engine" that was found in the car instead of the antiquated L-series like the manga. I know it's kind of a silly thing to nitpick about when the car is supposed to have that supernatural edge anyway, and the S30 is an irreplaceable part of the series that would have the fanboys up in arms if it was replaced, but changes often do have to be made for adaptations (especially when the source material is a bit older).

Regarding the takedown notices mentioned at http://www.tvnihon.com/node/2358, I wonder if they were false positives by someone who thought the downloads were for one of the video games, rather than the movie?

That's a good point, and it makes sense.
