I must say that after watching the subbed version, my impression of the show has improved dramatically.

I guess it was partly my fault. I went in expecting Yami wo Terasu Mono, I got Garo in Wonderland. It didn't help that I couldn't understand a single word of Japanese being said, the fight scenes seemed quite slow and fake, and you could tell everything was computer generated (and not in a good sense).

After watching the subtitles, I found I could better understand the plot, and appreciate the whole show better. It is definitely more meaningful overall.

The movie was fun and awesome. And if you haven't seen the first two seasons of Garo then you shouldn't be even watching this movie.

Yeah, this is the first movie for the second season, GARO ~MAKAISENKI~. But for some reason it was never subbed until recently. And why the Tougen no Fue movie was subbed way before Soukoku no Maryu is beyond me, lol.

Soukoku no Maryu happens right after the final episode of the second season so I wouldn't recommend watching it yet until you've seen the entire series. The movie also references the first season as well so it's sort of required to watch both, as well as the first two GARO movies from the first season (the third movie about KIBA is pretty much optional) to understand and really get into it.

As for me, I've just finished watching the movie now after finally finishing MAKAISENKI over the weekend. I don't know if it's just me but I feel like Soukoku no Maryu looks to be in really high quality. Maybe it's the blu-ray rip but the CGI and everything seemed very well-done compared to the previous films. The CGI fights looked great to me, although there was a bit too much of it. I'm a bigger fan of actual one-on-one choreography between human forms. Other than that it was awkwardly colorful, trippy, and had an extremely different tone from the series. Obviously seemed to be inspired by the Wizard of Oz and Kingdom Hearts (with the Nothingness). Still canon though, as it continues Kouga's journey, further expanding the story; adding more depth to the GARO universe and lore. It wasn't bad. I just wished it showed more from Tsubasa, Leo and Rei's side which was kind of random and thrown in, lol. I thought they were going to be involved in the Promise Land.

Luna got the Tougen movie for us way early, versus Soukoku which was shipped to me, so it took about a month? We released Soukoku October 4th versus Tougen which was released September 10th. It's not like there was that big of a gap.

But Tougen no fue and Soukoku were released the same day. Do they sell the bluray in theaters when you go to see the movie?

It was for the best anyway. It allowed us to stagger our work flow. The turnaround time from when I actually got the blu-ray wasn't too bad. It's just the problem with dealing with international shipping. It's just cheaper to group stuff for the month in a batch and that means it's sent when the later stuff comes out.

That's interesting, I can't recall any similar movement here in Europe, selling the movie you have just seen.

It's honestly pretty rare in Japan as well, I think this is the only time I've ever seen a time where you can buy the Blu-Ray at the same time as the movie's out in theaters.

I think we actually had Tougen no Fue finished about two weeks before the retail release date and while the movie was still in theaters but held off on distributing it as a courtesy to the publishers.

What, they released the blu-ray at the same time it was released in theaters?! That's weird, LOL! I don't even know what I'd do if that were the case. A movie ticket is about $10 and the blu-ray is around $20 (in America at least). So if you watched the movie and liked it, you'd be spending a total of $30 on it (which I usually do for movies I actually liked). But you can take a risk and buy the blu-ray first if you'd rather watch a higher quality release for a brand new movie in the comfort of your own home. I don't know, that's just really weird. But okay.

You couldn't actually buy the movie unless you presented your ticket as proof that you'd seen the movie in the theater.

Also the movie ticket was $20 and the blu-ray was like $60 :/

Loved the movie.

If anything, this film should be dedicated to pack rats who never throw anything away.
